Is the Vumatel network dying?

In the beginning Vumatel was great and i mostly attribute that to the fact that they had brand spanking new infrastructure and had yet to scale to their current levels.

Previously they even weathered loadshedding without issues. All you needed was a battary backup to keep your ONT online and you were good to go.

Recently though, since the middle of last year, the network has been intermittently dying; not on the customer's side but at a network level. Like the gateway on the other end of the fibre line goes bye bye.

Is it a case of Vumatel not keeping their network maintained? Is it case of scaling to fast and no longer being able to support the volume?

Working fine in my ‘hood, but then, we’re OG (Orange Grove).

The system so far my side of Kempton is working during loadshedding.

But I expect with 8 hours down time everyday some areas might be failing sooner than others.

Just look at the cellphone towers. Last I heard Vodacom needs to invest millions to replace batteries as well.

A bit late to the party, but it seems that they are going the same direction as the cellular service providers.

I've been with them for about 5 years now, no major issues to date, and I have connectivity during loadshedding. Cape Town, southern suburbs.

Terrible speeds tonight. I never thought I would say it but I regret moving from a Metrofibre suburb to Vumatel.

Cape town has less battery thefts than gauteng I believe.

Used to be reliable but now since Vumatel DFA merger to MAVIZ in Nov 2022 and Vodacom buying 30%, very unreliable

Multiple users on the East Rand off since Wednesday and only feedback is that technicians are investigating.

End of the last year we started having issues with Vuma (Durbanville) during load shedding.
Sometimes you just have to restart CPE box but sometimes issue persists till end of load shedding.
Never before we had any issues.

Thanks

Restarted CPE box numerous times but still nothing. Red light on indicating line issue

Internet usage at night is a right off now. Don't know if it load shedding, too many customers or neglecting their maintenance or all 3. But they need to start discounting prices for usage between 18:00 to say 06:00 (I don't know when the speed improves for the morning but it is always fine by then). Last night it was bad from 17:30 but it usually starts going at that 18:00.

I am having latency issues on my side big time. In a Counter Strike game my ping shoots up to 400ms and then comes fine after like 5 min but it is a killer

Loadshedding is killing this country and its infrastructure!
Just look at what the supermarkets are spending on diesel to keep their stores operational and guess what, we as consumers are bearing the full brunt of this cost.
Fark, this guvmunt is useless:mad:

How did the internet hold up today with the 4 hour slot from 16h-20h?

Had Vumatel, and cancelled after getting a Vodacom cellular Black Friday deal about 2 years ago. Cellular made it today, but the speeds degrade.

Active fiber in Senderwood seems to be fine.

Have heard some horror stories about night time congestion on VUMA GPON

197kbs download speed tonight, 1.4mbs last night. But earlier today it was about 34mbs I'm starting keep track of what is going on with my internet. Night time quality I was doing better on Telkom adsl copper and at least when we had issues they responded and fixed the issue. I don't know if they slowing down the basic 50mbs at night to give way to those on more expansive and faster lines. Or if it is congestion full stop. You had the odd night before but it has been unusable since the mass speed upgrade.

Unfortunately Vumatel/MWEB has a monopoly in my area.

Is there some sort of internet ombudsman one can contact about this?

Same by me. Even tik tok videos are buffering. Thats how bad it is. Busy running some tests with afrihost
