My son loves Durian but I can't stand it. Jackfruit is my favourite fruit. Plus it's super versatile in that you can cook with it as though it was pork.
I found fresh jackfruit a bit of a mission to work with. Only bought it twice. Probably gets a lot easier the more you do it.

Mangoes, bananas.

Anyone here done Jackfruit or Durian?

Durian is fscking disgusting. Or rather the smell is. If you can get over that then it might be okay, but no one can get over it except those who grow up with it. I tried it more than once, even in a sponge cake but good grief it smells awful. There is really no way around that.

+1 on the meat substitute. You can make tasty pie fillings with it and the texture is as close to meat as you will get from pretty much any non meat substance.

Havent had Durian yet. Heard it stinks a little bit lol
You're in for a treat  The smell is pretty bad when it's fresh, sort of like a rotting body. But it gets way worse if you leave the fruit out. My son left a bit on the seed and forgot it in his room. I couldn't even enter the house as the smell was so bad. Had to air out the house for the day and went through a pack of air fresheners.

Waar bly jy ? Jy bly stil.

And i'm looking for a guava tree. Love them. Can them myself.
Pomegranate i dug out long ago. That's a stupid bush.
Just buy some guavas from the store and let birds eat them and crap all over your garden. The trees will pop up like weeds everywhere (part of the reason they are classified as Nemba Category 2 invasive and not allowed to be planted outside the WC)

Only abfew select nurseries are allowed to sell them still. Tulbagh nursery comes to mind else you can try Fruitasia in Pretoria. Fruitasia has a large selection of rare exotic fruit trees
AHA. Thanks. I know where they are, driven past 100's of times.

I made the mistake of not researching my fruit trees and ended up with ones that ripen within a short period. Not ideal for a home tree. At least my orange and lemon tree I can leave the fruit on the tree for months.

Same here.
Best to also have mixture of early, mid and late season fruit so that you always have something to eat from the garden.

I have over 60 fruit trees in my garden. 15 will be removed soon and rehomed. Also havea any papaya, american paw paw and custard apples popping up everywhere.
Space..... My problem is space. Unless i dig up my lawn ?

I only have 6 wish I had a bigger plot.
December my peach tree had at least 200 peaches all ripe within 2 weeks. At least I had a few of the early ones before a flock of ringnecks moved in.

First peaches from my Nectarine tree a fcking baboon stole. Bloody schit jumped onto the neighbours roof and watched me as he chowed my peaches.
