US Embassy in SA issues "prepper" warning to citizens

Its a bit of an odd post so might be a few things but I thought I'd post just in case it was some poor soul.
LOL, some doxers turn MyBB into the gents' sh1tter at Parow railway station. Best to recognise them and report.

So many gullible people here. The US has been giving the same warning to some of its citizens in the US and it is funny how "mybroadband" reporters don't mention that because they want more traffic on their site.

Amazon's Kuiper is probably the only one we have a realistic chance of getting with them already having a decent presence here.
Why do you say that? We still do not know the pricing, nor availability in SA. At least with Starlink, Hughes and Viasat we know the pricing already.

That's so very funny, how come certain areas in Bloemfontein never gets loadshedding?? I'm working in kwaggafontein Reyneke Park lodge and we never had a day of loadshedding for a full month now and there are other areas too that almost never get loadshedding!??

If loadshedding was that serious then everyone should get loadshedding irrelevant of where and who you are of influence.

Mainly because of our fibre networks and the regulatory issues. I don't believe we will ever see starlink as a ISP and probably other players as they have pretty much said they are not interested with the current regulatory hurdles in place.

Most people will also rather take fibre so the uptake will likely be too small to make it worth the trouble.

Amazon on the other hand will offer business services for low orbit satellite already and have a presence here so won't be much extra effort for them to cater to the public.

On the other hand a local ISP might be able to make a deal with starlink and handle the local regulatory hurdles as a reseller but I'm not sure if they are open to that.

Loadshedding is a function of the switchgear at the local substations, if you are lucky the switchgear for your block will be non-functional and hence not be switched off according to the local loadshedding schedule. Then randomly they will fix it or it will start working again and the loadshedding for the property will commence. It happens quite often all over the country.

SA is a vast country, and I don't see fibre offering coverage in all areas, from an economic perspective it's not sustainable. The leaves the MNOs, and it would be against the greater good to disallow LEO satellite companies to offer services, particularly in light of the fact that it is a different technology, and one that doesn't need all their prerequisites.
