Hyundai Palisade

Hyundai Palisade (2023) Price & Specs

The flagship Hyundai Palisade SUV has been updated and gone on sale in South Africa. Here are some specifications and pricing for this large SUV.

Since its introduction back in 2021, the Hyundai Palisade has sold just 256 units, something which Hyundai South Africa hopes to change with the MY23 Palisade, which comes to market with fresher looks and even more convenience features.

How much does the Hyundai Palisade facelift cost in South Africa?

The updated Hyundai Palisade is sold with a 7-year / 200 000 km warranty and 7-year / 105 000 service plan.

Summary

The facelifted Hyundai Palisade addresses most of the areas in which its pre-facelift predecessor could be improved, but not all of them. The interior upgrade features more tech (such as the new infotainment screen and upgraded phone connectivity options), plus the active safety features have brought it in line with other premium SUVs and they’re all standard. The ride- and build quality appear to be excellent; in fact, the 2.2-litre turbodiesel motor remains the only real weak point in what is a really pleasing offering.

Those looking for an SUV with more off-road ability may view the new Ford Everest as a good alternative, but the Palisade, at its current price, represents a very good value-for-money road-biased option.

Facelifted Hyundai Palisade SUV debuts in SA with fresh look, even more luxury

The Hyundai Palisade hit the South African market in September 2021 as the Korean brand’s first million-rand vehicle and now, less than two years later, it has received a facelift.

The 2023 Hyundai Palisade 2.2D Elite, which was launched in SA this week, will now set you back R1 099 900, which is exactly 100 grand more than the original model retailed for in 2021, but the updated SUV does gain a whole raft of new features in addition to the fresh exterior and interior designs.

On the outside we see a new black chrome ‘Parametic’ grille design that’s similar to what we’ve seen on the Tucson and facelifted Venue models, along with new LED and DRL lights, and the 20-inch alloy wheels have a fresh design and two-tone colour scheme.

Justice for This Australian Woman Driving Half a Hyundai Palisade

Who doesn't want the wind in their hair on a warm March day?

This past Saturday, police in Victoria, Australia ticketed a woman for driving her Hyundai Palisade without a windshield, rear window, or any of the car’s typical front-end accoutrement — a hood, fenders, headlights, things of that nature. I, for one, think this woman did absolutely nothing wrong.

Look at it this way. You’re an established, 41-year-old woman. You’ve made it enough to get your hands on a new Palisade, so it’s likely you’re using the car as Hyundai intended: hauling around kids, dogs, or other assorted smaller living beings. You bought an SUV because you needed the space.

But does that mean you have to sacrifice your dreams of feeling the breeze on your face? I say no. Yet, with no three-row options on the market named “Wrangler” or “Bronco,” how are you supposed to get the wind in your hair on your commute, grocery run, or trip to the wreckers in search of new body panels?

There’s only one sensible solution, and it’s to smash out most — but not all — of your front windshield. In fact, take the rear out too. You need to consider the venturi effect, and how you’ll get all the hot air out of your car to allow cool, fresh air in from the front.

I like its looks and i'm sure it drives well, but it needs another 150KW at least.

Verdict

In many ways, you can consider the Hyundai Palisade an SUV-styled Kia Carnival (which is its cousin). That is a compliment, seeing as we rate the Kia minivan as arguably the finest large family vehicle of all.

However, for those buyers who don’t like the style of a “bus”, and prefer the design and visual appeal of an SUV, the Palisade will be a particularly tempting proposition. Yes, it could do with a little more grunt, but if you’re not going to tow large trailers, or go bundu-bashing, we think the Palisade is the best large “family-oriented” SUV that R1.1 million can buy in the new-vehicle market. And that’s some achievement!
