Hyundai announces name of new flagship eight-seater SUV
Hyundai has announced that its upcoming 2020 flagship eight-seater SUV will be called the Palisade. The news confirms an earlier report citing a trademark application that the SUV would bear the Palisade name.
The Korean automaker says the new name references a series of coastal cliffs and “might naturally be associated by many with the Pacific Palisades, an affluent and beautiful neighbourhood in Southern California”.
Hyundai promises the Palisade – which is scheduled to debut late in November at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, before hitting the US market in 2019 – will feature “bold” exterior styling and offer “spacious” seating with premium materials and “commodious cargo space”.
The brand furthermore says the new model (which will likely share its platform with the Kia Telluride and slot in above the Santa Fe) will be available with “a reassuring level of high-tech, intelligent safety features” as well as “intuitive technologies”.
Although powertrain details have yet to be released, rumours suggest the Palisade will initially be offered with the Hyundai Motor Group’s 3,3-litre V6 petrol engine. A hybrid system incorporating a 3,5-litre V6 is apparently also on the cards.
Whether the Palisade will be offered outside of the North American market remains to be seen.
