Zille is hugely popular among delegates and she is credited for keeping the party together.

The plenary erupts into a resounding round of applause and chants of “John, John, John,” as John Steenhuisen is announcing as DA leader giving him a second term at the helm of the official opposition party.
From the reception, it appears to have been an emphatic victory for Steenhuisen who defeated former Johannesburg mayor Mpho Phalatse to retains DA federal leader position.

COMMENT | There's alot of celebration after DA MP and spokesperson Solly Malatsi is elected second deputy federal chairperson.
This is seen as a win for the youth in the party as well as a win for black leaders.

I forgot how all black people were convinced to vote DA back then just because Mmusi was also black.
