Steenhuisen says the DA's support stands at 26% and the ANC's at 40%, from 2019's 16% for the DA versus the ANC's 59%.

Um, DA did not get as low as 16% in 2019 but ok. News 24 can't report properly (I doubt Steenhuisen made such a rookie error).
 
Congress passes a resolution that a commission of inquiry into farm murders must be established.

It'd be a waste of money. Farm murders are just a symptoms of the ANC's general failings. The DA are trying to pander to the conservative vote. A vote they're never going to win back from the FF+. Funny they keep trying for it when according to Zille they won't be trying for the black vote.

It's not necessarily a bad strategy. Post-2016 FF voters almost certainly voted for the DA, so at least they have a habit of voting DA. It's probably easier to get ex-voters to vote for you than new voters. Zille in her auto-biography stated how hard it is to win black votes for the DA and this is not due to a lack of trying - black DA representatives in black areas are harassed, called coconuts or sellouts and there are rampant conspiracy theories (DA will bring back apartheid, remove social grants etc).

Not really. It ain't half a bad idea.

The problem is on the one hand you can't dismiss farm murders as just regular crime (see the sheer brutality of many of them), but on the other hand, you can't exactly call "WHITE GENOCIDE" on it either like many conservative types do.

I think it'd be a good idea, to finally figure this phenomenon out.

Well it's naked politicking. Farm murders are mostly crime. There are a few related to grazing, poaching and vanilla land disputes but the vast majority are economic crime perpetuated by (former) employees. That accounts for some of the brutality actually. Having your baas under your power would be intoxicating.
 
@PrimeSteak - just went to the trouble of downloading the full results of Wards 105 (Tshwane) and Ward 16 (Merafong City) for the by-elections this week. Tasty as hell. Ward 105 is a super marginal held by ANC, and Ward 16 is a super marginal held by the DA.

Nothing like a bit of generalisation about the "vast majority" being by employees (if you believe that it may be similar in urban areas) but I am all for focussing on crime in rural areas; the actual farmers (black and white) are not the only ones who suffer, their employees do as well. In a good number of cases, these employees warned of an attack on the farmer. But I agree, most relate to crimes from petty theft to stock theft, often with SAPS turning a blind eye.
