According to EWN we need "66 000 megawatts"....

Ramokgopa warned of a dark and cold winter if Eskom's grid remained constrained, saying that Eskom needed about 66,000 megawatts to bridge the gap between demand and supply.

Actually if that was renewables, 66GW would probably be correct to stave off load shedding, as at most renewables give 30%

Quite likely what they have in mind. Renewables are the orders of their masters.

Well we'd need that just to stave off shedding :-) coal will still be needed to keep the base load running

At this point they need to just do something. What has actually changed since in the last year?

Or maybe gas which can be ramped up reasonably quickly to complement other variable sources? Seems like that proposed 3GW plant in Richard's Bay would be useful both to balance any increased contribution from renewables as well as our erratic coal fleet.

They've not managed to convert Ankerlig or Gourikwa to LNG yet, it's been 10 years.

NERSA is suing itself with that one.

If demand shot up to 37GW - as he says; we'd be in for a world of hurt, for sure.
