Update about Makro, Builders Warehouse, and Game checking till slips when shoppers exit stores

Nothing like queing to pay and then queing again to get out of the store because they haven't employed enough staff.

That's not the point. They are still implying that i stole. Whatever is in the bag is what i paid for and packed by the teller. In full view of the slip checkers.
Actually they check for cashier mistakes. You'd be surprised how easily things can slipped pass them

They only check their items, never your other bags. Stupid system.
Makes sense for what they check.

Which is exactly why they said they are fixing their internal processes

"However, it said the current process was unlikely to change in the short term, which means that clients will have to endure this security measure for some time."

No rush to fix it.

Such a stupid system. Walk from the till a few meter to another dude that checks your trolley and stamps your slip. Like where is the opportunity for stealing in a few meter?

They're not checking for shoplifters. They're checking their own staff from not charging for goods when they work in collusion with the customer. Otherwise they'd also pad you down.

In other words, they still treat you like a criminal.

Its a good practice. Ive never complained about it.

I think only the shoplifters would complain about it.

They're not checking for shoplifters. It's to prevent their own staff from stealing or not ringing up items. Note that the security at the gate are usually from a different company. It's also there to check for errors as sometimes cashiers don't ring items up in error or ring up fewer quantities then sold.

They just using a convenient excuse, not to blame the customer.

Just have one scanning, and one person check it was scanned and put it in the bag.

As said, the error could be replicated or there could be collusion. Usually the guys at the exit are from a third party security company. You will often see them pad down the staff as they exit.

The checks are also dynamic. So sometimes cursory, sometimes strict, in response to stock loss. Often even the cursory works as it's more of a deterrent.

Why would the cashiers's mistake warrant a search ? If i stood there watching the cashier scan all items i placed on the counter. Then bagged them while i and slip checkers watched.

If you have 5 cashiers, you need 5 people to watch constantly. And checkout can be quite fast so these people need to have eyes like hawks. Like this one security person can do the job of 5 such companions. Also they're from a different company and you also don't want them hanging around the till.

I don't need someone watching while i pay at a till point. If they do not trust their staff do not search me.

Exactly instead of paying their employees more, they would rather get a 3rd party company searching customers. Like WTF?

Maybe they should rather focus on in-house fraud and training then make it everyone else's problem.

How else do you prevent shoplifting? This is a nation of thieves after all.

A shoplifter will not unpack his basket at the till point. Have everything scanned and packed by a teller. And then walk 10 meters to a "slip checker who was eyeing you while you scanned and swiped your card. After all that they assume you stole something between the till and exit.
