I don't have an answer but from what I've seen of Carrick is very much like Ole, we are running on vibes and riding our luck in a lot of games. Our players that are performing are probably going to sign a bumper deal and sit on their wages. We've seen this before. As much as Ruben wasn't the man for the job I like that he cleaned out the squad and started the rebuild and had some identity.

Give Carrick 1 year contract renewable with extension
I'm still sticking to my gun - Ruben should have been given his full 3 years - yes football was dire but this was his first season, last season he had to figure out and clean out the dross players (even Fernandes said so after ETH's sacking, Garnacho, Rashford, Onana and Sancho). Stats at the beginning of the season showed we had the most XG and chances but didn't put those chances away - things started clicking but also regressed back to the same crap we also seeing under Carrick (against Newcastle, Everton and Leeds)
The signing where he wanted Martinez vs Lammens is debatable but he definitely didn't want to sell Holjund and needed another midfielder - hence why he persisted with Bruno in midfield and kept Cunha, Mbeumo and Amad up front - Sekso didn't have a preseason and that explained why he was on the bench.
The Mainoo situation only Amorim will tell perhaps in his bibliography - my take was Mainoo was acting like Garnacho thinking he was undroppable and demanded big money contract which Amorim felt he wasn't ready for - now his got his bumper deal time will tell if he will end up like Garnacho or not
So far Carrick is performing very similar to Ole... that's why I said in the previous post we may end up seeing the same scenario play out

Carrick is doing far better than Ole. He has the most points scored in league since he took over.

The challenge is we never really gave him time in Reuben's system and now hes come in and quite quickly become close to undroppable. Maybe he WAS playing up for a new contract - only time will tell. Its also entirely possible that a player of Kobbie's profile doesn't fit an Amorim style of play and that's also ok
My only focus is on the players performance, week in week out - against Leeds after 24 days rest why did we regressing back to the similar issues? This is something Carrick must figure out and each match since the win against Arsenal we have been
and that's why I said it maybe related to what Garnacho was doing... Garnacho was worse - giving out starting line-up, public outburst, most likely lack of training, etc (whatever happened behind closed doors)
Mainoo may have just been a big head, contract dispute and demanding things that a 20/21 year old should earn and not expect - Amorim at Sporting was renowned to giving young players a chance - Amorim prioritsed a merit-based approach that balances academy integration with high-performance standards... he also came out and said Mainoo is the future of United

He DOES have a lot to learn and work on, defensively it is around mobility when tracking back - he can come across as lazy. Going forward he can expand his passing as well to launch counters etc like how Bruno or Casemirao do. Having said that he is still young and getting better
Nah, I tend to focus on the technical abilities and noticed it - also when when Amorim pointed it out I took note, but by that time everyone was already shouting Amorim out...You seem to be a perfectionist
There's nothing wrong with that but given what he was giving in Amorim's system it is clear why Mainoo wasn't getting game time - he had the Grimsby game to prove something and along with the rest of the players - they were all weak with Onanana being the worst!Mzezman said:

You can see the difference between Mainoo and Yoro who gives 200% by putting his body on the line when he makes a mistake, or ends up in 1v1 situations (example of West Ham's draw).
Right now with all the hype on the team - yes we are attacking and putting the balls into the back of the net but watching at some of the goals conceeded - how Brentford, Leeds and Liverpool over ran our midfield with Mainoo and Casimero we haven't fixed anything and this is not going to be sustainable next season with Champions League, FA Cup, League and Carabao Cup

utter donkeys balls ...... end of story - we would have been sitting with Tottenham and Westham now if the owner did schit like this ..... and anyone who thinks this has shat their brains out .... Amorim was just incompatible with the players that United have got and there is nothing else to it ..... he had to go and he is gone and United are freaking far better off - imagine we did not lose the 7 or 8 games he caused us to lose this season plus we got around 8 to 10 draws with him in charge this season - and if we had Carrick from the beginning we would have been in the title conversation IMHO

AND 1 match after we qualify and look at the football we produced... a team that got wiped 5-0 by a relegation threatened team and drew 1-1 with Wolves - relegation fodder. Yet we played the most dire football that we've seen under Amorim's "first half season in charge".
0 shots on TARGET in 90 minutes!!! First one on target in the 90+3 minutes... 0 midfield yet everyone was praising how Kobbie Mainoo is so great - I'll still reserve my judgment on why he wasn't played under Amorim... People say oh we had no midfield but Mainoo was in there and non existent.

Yeah that wasn't a great game at all - Almost felt like a hangover post qualification. You have a weird fascination with proving that Kobbie is a bad player - he played badly and so did a number of others. Lammens was our best and between him and Bruno this season would have been dire.
Not at all, issue isn't the Mainoo but the narrative the Club is pushing the the "blind" fans of the club - Give Carrick a 5 year next year half way through the season and we in relegation zone. Fire Carrick.
I'm still maintaining no matter which coach we bring in from here on out with the Club wanting to move towards a Coach rather than Manager driving the club forward. Amorim football was getting there but he wasn't given his 3 years they promised him. Carrick is a yes man so if we give him a 3 year contract next year it's going to go the way of Ole. Then we do we go for? Southgate?
We are never going to challenge for any trophies with the way we keep recycling the managers. The same players had the **** drilled into them by Amorim and we throw that away. Now Carrick allowing the players to revert back to Pre-Amorim years we are just rehashing the same BS.

Im 100% with you on that last statement - the lack of proper strategy and investment by the Glazers is 95% the reason we are here - the other 5% i'll attribute to shocking transfers that lead to an unbalanced squad
To be honest i don't think Carrick is our "next 5 years" manager - he has stabilised a sinking ship but the leaks are still there - the next "5 year" manager we get should be backed by proper recruitment - our lack of depth showcased on Saturday was shocking
Amorim got fired after he chirped management. He was the architect of his own fate. Get over it. And clearly the last game was a bad one, after the pressure released of qualifying for CL.
You really are being a bit miserable.
The players we got under Ruben were actually mostly good, so INEOS's recruitment turnaround seems promising. Just that Ruben wasn't the type to fall into the "coach" / yes-man mould it seems they want in this structure.
So then realistically, which top of the line, experienced managers could we attract at this point for a 5-year stint?
I don't think there are any available this summer, in which case, I'd prefer to give Carrick a shot - short contract (2 years) and see what he can do. That gives him time to prove he isn't Ole 2.0 (and if he turns out that way, compensation won't be too high), and it gives the club time to wait for an experienced, accomplished long-term candidate.
