South African delivery app challenging Uber Eats and Mr D with cheaper prices

South African fleet management and delivery platform Skedadel is taking on a market dominated by Uber Eats and Mr D with lower prices and incentives to keep its drivers away from competitors.

The platform, based in the Western Cape, is also tackling areas that Uber Eats and Mr D avoid, and currently manages more than 100,000 deliveries per month.

It's been 3 years since I've ordered anything on Uber eats or Mr. D.. The markups are insane and I'd rather spend the 40 minutes to go get it myself..

Unfortunately, no merchants in my area are on Skedadel, so I can't see how much cheaper they are than the big two..

I don't use delivery anymore, at all.... and it's mostly because of one reason:

I don't mind paying fair prices for delivery, but when you increase food item pricing (at all) compared to what those prices are in-store then you can go get f**ed.

I'll never forget when in 2022 I paid over R150 for this awful oil ballas k@k that went straight into the bin, I was done with food delivery services after that.

I've also found its not really a "time saver" anymore either.

Its quicker to go to the place and get the food yourself still, and you at least can blame yourself when its not hot anymore.

That oil slop was supposed to be a "seafood platter for one"... I can't remember the restaurant.
If you think it looks bad, you should have tasted it.... not even fire would have wanted to burn the f**ing oil soaked into that s**t.

Even when I was ordering delivery like that, I only ever did seafood (beyond fried fish) once, and that was enough to cure me of wanting to do it ever again.
