New electricity prices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria

They've got some good policies. Not sure about the Christianity though. I don't like religion in my government.
Yeah, we have ACDP for that.

Anyway, voting for FF+ will still get you Helen Zille. Just with smaller balls.

My problem with "Christian values" is it's a small leap from there to teaching creationism in science class and other nonsense.

Religion needs to stay in its lane.

and I'm sure FF+ does that. Some other forumite said the other day they would rather not vote than vote for FF+ because of the christian values. I said to them to vote for OHM instead.

FF+ hasn't been given an opportunity to rule yet. I don't know how you can be sure of that.

The City of Cape Town is increasing its fixed charge for Home User customers, which are all those in properties worth more than R1 million, by 40%.

The current charge of R303.04 will increase to R424.30. In addition, the Block 1 tariff for the first 600kWh of consumption is increasing by 12.65% to R3.43 per kWh.
Still a pittance compared to Joburg. And I don't think that prepaid solar users are being forced onto postpaid either.
Postpaid residential customers with single-phase 60-amp connections will continue to pay about R1,070 in fixed fees. Those with 80-amp connections will pay R1,483, compared to the current R1,360.

These high fixed charges have been a sore point for grid-tied solar power users, who were forced to the postpaid tariff when registering their systems.
40% of R10 < 5% of R1,000. As adults we shouldn't still be falling for high percentage = more...

That's how democracy is supposed to work. You increase line fees 40% you lose votes. You introduce religious dogma into science class you lose votes.

Jhb prepaid is R242 after 5% increase and CoCT prepaid is R430 after a 40% increase.

That they do, you as the customer also need to pay for the meter. Even though most pre-paid meters are already Smart and already bi-directional

They are also not doing any conversions of post-paid to pre-paid

That's how it's supposed to work. That's clearly not how it works in SA.

A lot of very religious people in SA. I am genuinely concerned that if something like this starts it's not going to stop.

The court decided that CoCT cannot charge tariffs based on property values. City accepted and did not appeal, as is usually the case in Mzanzi.
So we will get a new tariff structure.

Does that include property rates where 50sqm flat pays R25k rates per month?

COJ fixed charges are insane, R1,360 before I use any power is diabolical and its going up to R1,482.
Can't even convert to prepaid because they aren't taking any new applications.

This was supposed to be a temporary pause in applications... its been almost 9 months now and every time I ask they keep saying

Yep, in the same boat with pre-paid, i've got cash to upgrade my system and go-off grid i just need to find an installer who doesn't want to bend me over a barrel
