EMOTIONS ran high in Delportshoop this week after a 24-year-old resident from Rooikoppies was fatally shot while allegedly stealing oranges at a residence in Kruger Street.

Community members stated that the deceased, Albanie Gundry, and a friend had apparently gained entry to the property through a hole in the fence, whereupon the homeowner allegedly fired a shot through a window.

Following the incident, firearms, including rifles, were seized, sealed in evidence bags and taken by forensic investigators.

Neighbours, meanwhile, said that houses in the area were frequently targeted by intruders and that housebreaking was commonplace.

Shooter is in the kak. You can't shoot someone if your life is not in danger, expecially shooting from inside the house through a window.

But also the guy did break into his property to steal.

Gundry was shot in cold blood. He could have fired a warning shot or let his dogs out

Can you imagine if he let the dogs out and they mauled him to death. Would be another fiasco.

Takeaway is don't break into someone's private propery. If you wanted oranges why not ask.

I read in another article somewhere that there was a hole in the fence so the guy cant even argue to took reasonable precautions to secure his property..

This is the problem. Property is not valued under the law.

If you could shoot orange thieves then we wouldn't have an orange thief problem.

Property is life.

The shooter will get away with a suspended sentence if he has a good lawyer.

I was going through some motion-detected footage from the one CCTV cam at the holliday home in the bush.
The neighbour comes walking over during midday, opens my gate, and walks straight to the one lemon tree and starts filling his t-shirt like a basket and wobbles on back home. Met sy pens wat uithang.

I was like wtf dude. Just make an arrangement with me. You can have them lemons, just let me know. 🤷‍♂️

As if crime during the day is not a thing. A good lawyer will make that guy look very good.
You cant just shoot someone for being on your property nicking oranges....

Owning a firearm comes with responsibilities...

The guy can argue he has been robbed before, area is full of crime, was a gang of them, was fearful for his life but I dont think its going to work.

(If you could just shoot someone for being on your property stealing things I think there may be less thievery around though...)

Family member and ANC Ward 6 councillor Richard Springbok condemned the killing.

"Gundry was shot in cold blood. He could have fired a warning shot or let his dogs out. No one should be killed for stealing oranges that grow wild on trees.

"The bereaved family members were treated like baboons and perpetrators and were locked out of the crime scene."

Police should have just let the family members go and trample over the crime scene. See how that will help them.
