What are the maximum speeds people get downloading games from Sony's servers?
They still powering their CDNs with hamsters?
So what will the point be of shops like BT games?
Yes they have digital codes, but just buy directly with no extra steps.
So just a shop full of Funko kak.
why are people so upset? I mean you haven't been able to rent a DVD or Blu-ray for years now, and those used to get borrowed and passed around all the time, nobody blew a gasket on that.
then it was PC games, that newer PC's dont even come with openings for Disk drives anymore
now the PS and Xbox that for years are just PC's with software limitations, at vastly inflated prices.
was only natural they would take out the disks anyway,
I mean isnt it on the disk themselves its only a very small portion of the game anyway, essentially a "link" like a QR code that downloads the 80GB game from a server somewhere.
Like I said, you will own nothing and be happy. cause physical goods wont actually exist,
all be digital and deleted as easily as it came.
The way of the dodo....So what will the point be of shops like BT games?

Yes just give it time ... the next thing in a few years will be limited time digital licenses for games where if you buy it you will only have digital download/stream access for games/movies for a limited period... maybe 12 months or so.That’s the irony…it’s all on Azure now and I think Microsoft make more money from Sony than from Xbox themselves.
Yes, and eventually people will ask themselves why buy a PS or Xbox when its essentially a Heavily customized and locked down PC, for vastly more money than a equivalent PC that can do other things other than games.I always loved a disc games but guess it was old school. You could play the game and then sell it or lend it to a firend without having to jump through so many hoops. Shops like gamestop, bt games etc are already dying but now its game over.
My biggest issue with digital only is games are released when they are not ready and then patches are just issued (know it use to happen with physical games aswell) but not as often. Also pretty sure the future will hold subscriptions for everything, buy the game then you need a subscription to unlocks features or play multiplayer etc....
guaranteed to happen, 100% reality, even us PC games with a steam library will suffer, pay X to keep access to your games you paid for and downloaded.Yes just give it time ... the next thing in a few years will be limited time digital licenses for games where if you buy it you will only have digital download/stream access for games/movies for a limited period... maybe 12 months or so.
In this age of AI all hardware costs are going crazy and you can bet this will be their next cost cutting trick.
Or even as they currently do with Xbox Gold and PS Plus games that you "own" - you will only be able to access it whenever you are subscribed... that fixed income is something they are craving for. Maybe that will be their next![]()

again the age when you own a work of fiction or art is dead, everything is by a screen of some sort these days,
Music, Books, Video games, Films, movies, series.
you DO own nothing and ARE already somewhat happy.
people getting upset for nothing it seems, I mean what was on those vaunted disks anyway?
essentially a fancy QR code that directed the console to download the game from some server anyway.
patches and spyware and DRM and microtransactions and all the fluff.

This is the exact reason I chose a PS5 Pro over a gaming PC. I just want to turn it on and have everything work. I don't want to deal with Windows updates, constant driver rollouts, or managing five different game storefronts.Xbox and PS will always dominate gaming, atleast casual gamin. Parents buy the consoles for kids and lots of people want to buy something you can pick up and play with no need to upgrade parts every few years. Value to performance also good you cant really build a gaming pc for R10k with perephirals unless you go 2nd hand or do a lot of research which people are not going to do.
I have a PS 5 I havent really used in a while but definately going to start gaming with my kids when they are old enough and there will be no reson to upgrade or replace it for years.
And a good ole iris scan before each session))Yes just give it time ... the next thing in a few years will be limited time digital licenses for games where if you buy it you will only have digital download/stream access for games/movies for a limited period... maybe 12 months or so.

Ah makes sense now. This is the exact reason I chose a PS5 Pro over a gaming PC. I just want to turn it on and have everything work. I don't want to deal with Windows updates, constant driver rollouts, or managing five different game storefronts.
Even after jumping through those hoops, you get hit with the dreaded shader compilation loading screens, followed by spending an hour tweaking settings just to get a locked 60 fps, not to mention the inevitable headset and mic troubleshooting.
And don’t even get me started on Unreal Engine games on PC; I don’t think Ive played a single one that doesn't stutter every five minutes.
