Maybe they thought AI was going to do most of the work and they wouldn't need the staff to be qualified.

Pity the Bonitas members don't get a say in the change of administration. On the bright side Fedhealth has an opportunity to increase their membership.
A lot of companies thought they could replace humans with AI, it'll be cheaper they said... AI costs more and still needs human oversight.
AI is a tool not a replacement, augment it into your systems instead of replacement

LOL yip seems that way. Yea Sanlam is pushing Fedhealth as part of a revised strategy since they acquired Afrocentric. In my opinion, Fedhealth is a far better scheme than Bonitas but they are not cheap.

Two weeks later and Bonitas have approved my mom's authorisation to go to a step down facility.
Problem is she has been sent home two weeks ago with limited care as Bonitas did not respond. At some point they sent an automated rejection on all claims. Now all is approved.

What the hell.

Anyways, she continues to slowly recover at home.

My application for hospital authorisation was made on 29th May
The procedure was scheduled for today
Since there was no response, the hospital, surgeon and anesthetist asked for a R710 000 payment up front
Since it takes 10 days to get the money together, it has been cancelled

So they still having issues, thought they could fix it by now

Did you get the care at home? My mom went from knee surgery complications and came home with a large drain and vac treatment that required care by a nurse. They organized the home nurse and care, we just had to cover transport.

My wife visited Bonitas walk-in centre at the bottom of Long Street on Monday. Room was packed and their security suggested she come back another day

Went again this morning. She estimates there are 45 people ahead of her at the moment (13h00) and each consultation takes 10 mins. There are 8 staff. Customers standing at the back of the room

Going to try Fedhealth

send all home care costs to bonitas - let them know it was a direct result of their dereliction of duty you have had to incur various costs

vac is exceedingly expensive - many medical schemes try avoid vac.
locally smith & nephew supply pumps and dressing packs (renasys), as well as kci.
those dressing packs are about R2k each & usually need to be changed twice a week.
1 week of vac incl wound care nurse is around R5000

if your mom has a kci unit with wound irrigation - that cost leaps up

Highly doubt each consultation will take 10 minutes. They hired mostly completely untrained staff off the street while allowing over a thousand seasoned Medsheme Bonitas employees to be retrenched, clearly they wanted more profit and didnt want to spend money employing competent staff. Round 2 of Afrocentric layoffs started earlier this week. Well done corrupt Bonitas board members for ruining thousands of lives, ex bon staff and putting 1000s more patients lives at risk with untrained clinical staff at PHA.

It was difficult as they stay in voetsek town with no homecare services. Found a lady that helps during the day and with food and stuff, english isn't great and she can't sort the meds. But helps with the exercises etc. And then found anther lady who had some experience in caretaking, very good english, who helps later afternoon till about 6pm and sort out all the meds and stuff. Then evenings FIL is there or one of her friends etc. We were there for two weeks now and my wife did a lot.

But she is battling quite a lot and it is slow process as her health is not great.

yeah I know, was for 6 weeks or so, something stupid like 50k or so by the end.

Today's excuse for Bonitas not processing my request for authorisation is that I should have sent the request to [email protected] who handle this

The instruction on Bonitas website states that authorisations should be sent to [email protected]

After a 4-hour wait on the phone to PHA, I was told that emails sent to [email protected] are redirected to PHA. Asking why the request was not processed, the lady said she did not know and since the request period had elapsed, there was nothing to be done

What a pitiful organisation. I cannot wait to start with Fedhealth

How many people out there have a liquid 710k ZAR aka 43k+ USD :rolleyes:
a surprising amount.

i was helping a friend with something about 2yrs back, the one bank account had about R4.2m in it.
he owned a business, i initially thought it was some specific transaction - but going thru previous bank statements, that figure remained pretty static.

i ask him wtf is going on with this - why is the money just sitting there ?
"i hate having to deal with bankers and investment ppl", he says.
"but i'll get it sorted out"

4 months later - still sitting there !
