Fifa World Cup 2026

Don't know much about soccer rules and VAR so I will stay out of that discussion. But that Argentina-Egypt game was classic. Gutted for Egypt as they were heading into the Quarters but Argentina had other ideas. Great game.
I am surprised that the Swiss made the play-offs. I have not seen any of there games though but just thought they were not going to be in the final 8. Anyway, onto the Quarter finals!

Then for the 3rd Argentinian goal, the same thing happened, soft penalty but the reft moves on and the ref leaves it, while they are still complaining the goal is scored.

Its enough to say there is an inconsistency.

So the Egypt one being disallowed was because no Argentinian touched the ball between the foul to the goal being scored, which made it the same sequence, whereas for the other play moved on.

When its the same sequence but the holding team moves the ball forward, back and then forward again before scoring (and/or some time passes) then (most likely) there will also be no check.

Don't get me wrong, the refs have been all over the place as they usually are. For example at the start it was made clear that if player's dive they will be carded, but in e.g. England's case that would have given Kane probably 3 yellow cards which would have ensured that they didn't make it past their previous game. The same for giving penalties without a card, etc.
