I didn't know that had happened, it is pointless, there's no need for all those no-name brand teams to make the World Cup, they should be eliminated well before that stage so the whole world doesn't need to watch them getting slaughtered.World cup increasing from 32 to 48 team really has made some pointless matches.
+16 extra teams and +40 extra matches for a total of 104 matches compared to the previous world cup. In my view that really makes zero sense and waters down the whole tournament. People will seriously get fatigued watching 104 matches over 39 days. The extra matches mean so many records for goals scored and golden boot record goals will happen.
Africa gets 9 slots. 4 extra slots over the previous world cup. At least it means South African qualifies for the first time since 2002. (2010 they hosted meaning they did not have to qualify)
I have never heard of the countries of Curucao or Cabo verde before. You could easily get 10-0 scoresheets when they play tier 1 nations.
I wonder how they pick who plays in the first game considering what a prominent match it will be?
They do? Is this a special concession for the world cup?South Africans get visa free travel to Mexico so at least fans don't have to apply for US visas as they will be based in Mexico
It cheapens qualification as you don't know if teams are any good who enter the tournament.I didn't know that had happened, it is pointless, there's no need for all those no-name brand teams to make the World Cup, they should be eliminated well before that stage so the whole world doesn't need to watch them getting slaughtered.
It’s not like in past World Cups it was a closely fought thing between the majority of teams, the big football countries have always annihilated the lesser teams.
Ugh just read it does cost but it is reasonable compared to the US visa costThey do? Is this a special concession for the world cup?
Edit: unless perhaps there is a mix up with visa free and free visa, as there's no charge for a tourist visa if you're South African.
Starmer has a good point there. FIFA are just profiting off of people who aren't genuine lovers of the game. It is why the took the world cup to the likes of Qatar. Real fans are being left out in pursuit of the mighty dollar.
