Just to ad. I think fans were very positive overall, but you could definitely stumble into more toxic fan interaction online. But then you just had to go: Eew wtf is this and move back to Norwegian rowing and Haaland.

There has been a sour stench around them for a while now. They managed the unthinkable and even had people cheering for England, who often take the crown as the most disliked team.

Once Messi retires, it is not going to be a likable team at all. He was the only goodwill they had, and even he has been behaving like a baby, notably trying to get people carded for the mouth-covering stuff. He done it to Cucurella last night and the guy just touched his mouth briefly.

It was the vibe on the social channels I was following.

The sometimes-questionable refereeing decisions in their games gave the impression that FIFA were trying to get them through matches and a lot of their players are dickheads, so neutral fans were put off.

The Egyptian coach said out loud what a lot of people were thinking.

For me personally, Messi should have been red carded 31 minutes into their opening game, but FIFA was never going to have that.

nah that was an easy one, England played even dirtier than Argentina, good grief the first 20min of the match was constant ref whistles ... and then Argentina with the comeback after trailing to shut all those "it's coming home" drunkards right the hell up was awesome

can't think of a single team at this world cup I would pick England over to support

Yeah there was heavy favouritism for Argentinia throughout the tournament.

Luckily Spain still won, thanks to Argentinias negative play style. If the refs help you out that much you need to put a few shots on target.
