May be 128 by the time we get to 2030. Only reason they're having it over 3 countries again. By the time we hit 2038, it's going to have to played across an entire continent.

Listen sunshine I was not the one complaining about the halftime show. It was people watching grown men fake injuries and crying half the match about it, that complained. Surely you can spot the irony in it?
 
Did not follow this much as not a soccer fan but have been amazed at the unity amoung the office football fans I sit around in combining on their hate of Argentina. They all seem to think they did not even deserve to get near the final, had the ref's in their pocket, and deserved to lose to Spain. Also seems to be a lot of hate for FIFA. Seems to be less interest in international football and more for club level stuff and FIFA is constantly pushing the former over the later so that seems to grate the average club fan. Odd situation overall.

Hatred for FIFA is longstanding among football fans, especially ones from countries where they've hosted the WC. It's all shiny and amazing when it's your turn, but then you start noticing things during and after the tournament. They're literally like parasites: just move in to bleed the host dry, and then leave it with all the money they made, and the impression on the hosts that they actually benefitted.

Just check out how much SA spent just to host the tournament vs how much it actually made from it. We still have the empty, rotting stadiums around the country to remind us that the tournament wasn't there to benefit us - only FIFA.
 
I have to admit... I was completely wrong Argentina didn't win the WC, Messi didn't get the golden boot... but the Ref definitely didn't like that Spain scored in normal time - something to do with betting? outright winner in normal time?

That last part is odd.

The problem with club (as someone who used to watch it) is that its a money game. You can just pay for the best players, there is no real reason a player can belong at a club because they can just be bought and sold.

So what is the reason you like club X or Y ? Do you like that Messi played there? or is it your home club ?

I know this is a problem with all professional sport but it seems to be worst in the football leagues.

I think I prefer the world cup because its (mostly) teams made up of players who are representing their own country.
So when you support a team it's your "boys", you have a connection with them that gives some kind of relevance.

From a global cost perspective we didn't spend that much and atleast we put on a damn good show and boosted the image of South Africa. Do agreed on the stadiums except Soccer City and maybe Green Point all others make a loss and we could have designed the stadiums to be a lot more multi sports friendly or upgraded other existing stadiums.

The stadium in Green Point also makes money because its also the rugby and soccer stadium

It was beautiful. It was fun. It was unifying. But was the World Cup worth it for the United States?

That question is typically answered in financial terms: Add up the economic benefit the games generated and subtract the amount spent to put the games on; if the number is positive, then the games were worthwhile. If it’s negative, they weren’t.

By that measure, the World Cup was almost certainly a bust.
