The official running thread™

They won't vanish overnight but yea feedback i got told when i was talking about socks was they really struggling it seems. Balega you can score a pair for around R120 odd.
Have never seen them that low. I've obviously been looking at the wrong places.

Did a 5K benchmark run today to see what my fitness is at. Managed 25:25 so it's not as terrible as I thought. Only 2 minutes longer than my PB. HR was still much higher than I would like.

The Deviate Nitro Pure feels good. Much better fit and comfort than the VN4. They feel slightly firmer than the VN4. Slower paces they feel pretty much normal. Nothing exceptional. At higher paces (5:00+) they start to shine with more energy return. I expected a bit more from them though. It might be due to me being a midfoot striker so I'm losing out on some the energy return since most of the foam is at the heel.

The 100 mile review i watched on them the guy said after about 50 to 60 miles he noticed a massive change in them and started seeing them really shine so could be still new foam? I am finding with my Puma shoes the more i use them the nicer the foam is feeling

Anyone familiar with Gilnokie socks? (Had to check I spelled it right).

I bought a couple of pairs to try out and so far I'm quite impressed. I like the texture and padding they offer. They're softer than Versus socks and they feel much better too. Not sure if they'll replace my favourite Falke Stride socks though, but they are on par to those.

I'm wondering about their longevity though. Quality seems good.
I had none a year ago, now have 5 pairs, and they were all part of the goodie bags of various races.

I must say, they are my new favourite brand, very comfy and durable.

I also quite enjoy the Sox brand, they just work for me - was also introduced to them via a goodie bag.

One brand I do not like is Versus, expensive, and wear out very quickly.

It can definitely be the case. It's only my third run in them. They feel really great in sprints. Tried some strides after a base run yesterday and I was flying for the 20s or so. Garmin clocked me at 2:55/km at the peak. But I was really pushing the power.

I still need to figure out if I should hide the strides from the Garmin since they kinda skew the stats of the base runs.

I also don't like Versus. There's just something that doesn't work for me.

I kinda went overboard and ordered a bunch of Gilnokie socks from Takealot to try out.

So far I loved the trainer (half-crews) so much I ordered 6 more pairs today. But it was with a R150 off coupon and they are on TakealotMore sale. So I guess that justifies it.

Give the SA Flag half-crew versions a skip though. They don't seem to feel as good as the normal ones.

Needed to get some extra money in my Takealot cart to get a coupon and just noticed the New Balance socks i run in are on special!

6 pack for R219 instead of R449!

Yeah, I got a set of the crew version during the previous sale. That reminds me. I should try them on a run...

Anyone can recommend good replacement laces?

Got a pair of shoes and the laces are just terrible, I tighten the shoe it feels comfy then 5 minutes later shoe is loose.. Retie the laces and its fine again

First very slow first run today since June 4th where I tore the ligaments in my foot, only 2kms, my chest took a beating in the cold but my foot felt solid which is all that really matters.

Have had all the follow up with doc's, physios etc, picked up all the weight but happy to be back. Feels strange going from the fittest in my life to fattest in a decade.

Best advice I can give is to take it really slow while getting back after illness/injury. Don't jump back into large volume and distance. Ease into it.

Don't be an idiot like me and do a 16K after being ill. You'll unlock a bonus knee injury.

Did it again. I did my 550th parkrun, and 350th at Roodepoort, and managed a Parkrun PB (26:40), and that on a pretty hilly course.
Did it again. I went to Victoria Lake Parkrun, and got a Parkrun PB of 25:39, over a minute faster than my previous PB at Roodepoort.

Prior to my 3 overall PBs this year, my previous PB was Victoria Lake in 2018, at 27:13, when I was doing a 10K or 21K race every second weekend.
