Plan to end 'system is offline' at Home Affairs

The Department of Home Affairs has launched a tender to appoint a service provider to maintain, support, and optimise its data centres and server rooms at branches across South Africa.

It said that the service provider would support the DHA Modernisation Programme, and that its data centres must be up to par to enable digital services and maintain availability requirements.

Need reliable connectivity for the cloud to work. Unfortunately SITA isn't worth a damn and Starlink isn't allowed.... So we just duplicate infrastructure everywhere. Fortunately a cadre can make good money selling IT services & hardware, tenders for everyone!

The DHA in Cape Town CBD is a bit more modern.
I was there this past weekend with my son to get his ID done.

Monitors were DELL, fairly recent vintage
Fingerprint reader was a THALES, pretty decent and expensive.
The place where they take your photo uses a digital camera, but the software interface looked pretty decent so I don't know about the client services centres but ja, the backend... oh dear, probably as you described.

The HA office itself, pretty grimy, and derilect, especially where the people queue for kilometers on end...
 
If it's anything like their IT partner that handles their emails then it's going to be a disaster.

I tried to email one of the contacts but the mail kept rejecting for spf and dkim failure. Checking the message header they have a poorly implemented forwarding system which keeps the original sender domain in place without preserving the authentication correctly.

We have a strict reject policy on our spf so it naturally would fail since their ip is not an authorised sender of our domain.
 
Easiest problem in the world to solve. Allow starlink, and shut down SITA.
