The Rugby Thread - Part Deux

This would be the equivalent of the boks smashing the hurricanes and crusaders by similar scores.

Somehow don't see that happening

Why not ?
I remember even The Sharks beating the Crusaders away from home

If I were pressed to make a prediction I would say Boks win at Ellis Park, lose in Cape Town, win at FNB, win in the USA...
Think Boks lose first test. That 10 - 43 is going to have the ABs on fire for this game.

Sad to say because I have good seats at EP for this game.

Hope I am wrong.

The boks will smash them in game 1. Expect some weird tactics from rassie.

The all blacks have been brilliant and clinical. Haven't seen any magic

The bulls only kicked one attacking up and under. And were offside while doing it

Its gonna be very different against a proper SA team

Depends who plays. Many Boks without significant game time.

Club games over now barring the lions midweek.

Let’s see what they got now, green machine is a total different beast especially if you going backwards in a scrum.

Bulls tried to play the All Blacks at their own game in the 1st half and showed why you don't do that. Better 2nd half when the 2 Boks and the sub scrummie came on.
Having faced meagre opposition so far, I don't know what to make of this AB side yet. They do however look good and have momentum. Some Boks last played in the Wales game while others played just over a week ago against the Argies. So we might not be match fit. I have no idea how the first test gonna turn out.
Rassie to only name his team on Thursday afternoon.

From what l've seen from the AB's and even Boks so far I think the first game will be riddled with errors.

As long as we keep it clean and scrum like we normal do we probs will win, won't be pretty but we should be ok.

That **** they were throwing around in the last 3 warm up games will be snapped up quickly with our fetchers.

Their scrum will be going backwards though, that I can guarantee.

Yip, these "easy" wins against Bok depleted, preseason URC teams is perhaps created a bit of a false economy for the AB's. They're looking good but who doesn't shine in a 54-0 demolition?

An underdone Bok XV is always a worry but I remember the first test against the Lions, 2009, John Smit era. Boks came in with very little game time under their belts but were so up for it, winning 26-21 after an incredible start.

NZ definitely taking momentum into the series but it has come at a price. Proctor, Bell, Clarke, Norris all on their way home. 4 players out before the 1st test, is a significant blow. Cam, Will and Dmac nursing niggles. I think Cortez also picked up a niggle against the Bulls..

On the plus side, they've had a good taste of rugby in the republic, a game at altitude and a good look at the Northern Hemisphere refs and how they officiate.

I wonder if these injuries and niggles are symptomatic of the Rennie game plan? Total commitment to breakdown brutality, high tempo, high ball in play strategy. One wonders how sustainable it is?

Both coaches are prepping for war, both using live ammo in their preparations...

Remember the mid week game V the Lions on Tuesday...

AB's will definitely tighten up me thinks. Not sure they'll be playing fast and loose. They'll be playing fast but their skillset is quite incredible.

They do the fundamentals so well and I'm not referring to the midweek games but more the game against Ireland and the 2nd half against Italy, where they were absolutely magnificent.

Sure, the Boks aggressive press and rush defense will introduce a challenge they're yet to face this year but if that pressure doesn't bring mistakes we won't enjoy scrum set piece and won't have that platform on which to build pressure. The more accurate the AB's are, the less mistakes they make, the less scrums there are...

We will no doubt test them with a barrage of box kicks/up and under/contestable, trying to force a knock on and/or win back the contestable, an AB weakness and a Bok strength. AB's lineout maul defense is also looking susceptible. Don't be surprised if it is Marx scoring the first Bok try on the weekend... equally, don't be surprised if the AB's get off to a screamer and we 14-0 down within the first 10 minutes....
