The Rugby Thread - Part Deux

I've always enjoyed Sasha playing. I do understand Sandman's concerns though. Sometimes he tries one too many "Maverick" moves. Awesome when it pays off but can be punished by the likes of the AB's. That is the exuberance of youth. That being said, the kid has talent and an eye for an opportunity. I'm glad he is in the team.

Wanted to ask this, it's been a burning question since I was a kid and played both football and rugby.

So if I/We my team on your 5 meter line and we tucking and going, if my scrummy throws the ball high enough for me to header the ball of the pole middle line, does that constitute as a drop goal or three pointer ?

Anyways boys, enjoy Saturday and hopefully we crying happy tears.

I dunno what the law says on that. I would think it would be a knock-on and won't count.

Wtf

Can't knock on from your head. But a drop goal has to bounce first. It would take some doing heading a ball over the bar off a bounce
Drop Goal, Penalty or conversion specifically mentions "kick" in the laws.

Conversion, penalty goal and dropped goal

8.4 For any goal to be successful, the ball must be kicked over the crossbar and between the goal posts without first touching a team-mate or the ground.

The rest of the world seems to think SFM is the best in the world. Only in SA are people "not sold" on him.

Perhaps it is because South Africa isn't accustomed to a running, ''flashy'' flyhalf.

Pollard and Steyn come to mind. More about distribution and goal-kicking than looking to create things.

We have historically tended to play controlled, set piece driven rugby and a no-frills 10 that can manage a game, and kick consistently has been a big part of that. 3 of our 4 WC wins have been won through kicking. The last Lions Tour was won off the boot.

Thank god we evolved. We can win in two distinct ways now. And kolbe can kick the goals :D

In Rassie we trust.
Sasha is just the Sasha show, if it works its amazing, when it does not work its pretty average.
Nobody can get a backline going better than Manie. We will probably see that second half if the Sasha show does not realize.

The build up and excitement and anticipation for this series and particularly the 1st test, has been of a monstrous scale!

The first test is almost guaranteed to fall short of expectations.

It would need to produce a spectacle akin to the SA v FR RWC 2023 quarter final, or the NZ v IRE RWC 2023 quarter final, to even get close to fulfilling expectations.

Hype is entertainments worst enemy...

Topic derail but what time is the SA kickoff for the 4th test in Baltimore? My understanding is 5PM Baltimore time = 11PM SA time? Getting different results from the web (AI especially:rolleyes:)

Even the official website says 17:00 SAST but they wouldn't have a game at 11am in Baltimore?
