Evetech warranty disaster

I don't know about stickers. No one has even tried to make the point to me that my issue is as a result of the spill 11 months prior.
My father has a saying: "Jy praat te veel."
Next time, don't offer up any knowledge of previous incidents. Just hand it in and say nothing.

Good luck trying to spot corrosion on a track in a multi-layered board.

Doesn't even need to be corrosion. If there was a short from the liquid or the sticky mess at some point it can easily blow a fan controller or capacitor etc.

The corrosion will be around the components or specifically around the unmasked pads on the components.

It's unlikely you will see any corrosion on the tracks as they are coated.

Depending on the substance spilt there can be shorts or all sorts. The higher voltages around the display connectors also don't take too kindly to spilt liquids.

Considering on Lenovos side the warranty is still showing as active another thing you can perhaps try is to upgrade the warranty to 3yrs NBD onsite warranty which should use a different service provider than Partserve for the repair, hence bypass their bs.
But do clean the spill off the keyboard and anywhere else before going that way.
I'll try this.

So tried to get the computer today. Emailed Evetech and Partserve got no reply.

Then I called Partserve, said all kinds of stuff, Evetech booked it in, I couldn't really understand everything so I asked to email me what I need to do to get my laptop back.

Hour later, called again because obviously hadn't received an email. Spoke to a lady this time, she says we're good to go, I can arrange a courier it's ready for collection, she gives me the address etc. Great.

16:30 I get an email from Courierguy, collection failed. Obviously I'm a bit frustrated. So I call, no laptops apparently still in the workshop. They'll call me tomorrow at 8:30 apparently to let me know when/if it can be collected.

I am just asking so please excuse if it's a dumb question but wouldnt the issue happen sooner after the spill not 10/11 months as is the instance here.

Not necessarily, it could have congregated in a spot and then dust acumalted on it over time causing a short.

But Im really just saying its possible you would have to open it and see what the damage was and the likely cause. Part serve isn't exactly known for their fairness either so I'm on the fence with this one.

Not necessarily. With corrosion it gets worse over time especially with moisture and if there was any salt content in the liquid. With current flowing though the PCB it can also further make things worse through the eletrochemical process.

I can't claim for a second it's not my fault, I've only pointed out they never told me or explained it to me that it was. But I found out this morning that they never even investigated the fan issue I asked about so yeah.

Figured this needs an update.

I received the laptop this morning with screws missing and the wi-fi not working.

I just spent and hour and even more money on the phone with the Lenovo helpdesk at Partserve to confirm that the wi-fi is in fact broken. Evetech are however not in the office currently but I did email them first thing this morning, obviously I did not get a reply.

When they can't be bothered to turn in some screws, you can imagine what else was improperly reassembled.

I also found out that they never even assessed my warranty query. And that the whole situation regarding that was incorrectly communicated to me. I never asked about liquid damage well because there was no damage, I asked about a fan under load, this was never even inspected, nevermind causality between this and a spill like the warranty would require.

What's more and no one told me this until the Lenovo help desk today, they quoted to fix the spill and that would reinstate the warranty. How is this not explained to me. It even makes sense and abides more by the terms of the contract than what was communicated to me.

Ideally Partserve can send someone to me to fix the computer, but can't imagine that'll ever actually happen. Evetech will do nothing, so I'll have to hire a 3rd party non-warranty repairer and pay myself to fix the wi-fi.

If anyone knows anyone or is in George and you can help, please send me a message.

I don't know anything about this case, but that is why I asked. It is not a quote; they will send you an estimate. Once you accept that, they should advance to a quotation. Though I am not sure about a warranty reinstatement, it is usually extended (terms pending).

Again, this is not my case, but the Wi-Fi issue could be related to the module/card not being properly inserted or connected. It also has a screw... could be a screw loose. Dunno.

Since it is already opened, you could open it to check the module. I hope it is still there...

If the Wi-Fi was working previously they probably just didn't reconnect one of the Wi-Fi antennas or didn't seat the Wi-Fi module properly. Is the OS still seeing the Wi-Fi module or not?

So did you contact Lenovo directly yet or not and log a warranty return on their website?
