Locknut removal

Yeah there's not much clearance around it and will probably damage the wheel. I've contemplated the welding thing as well but thinking that will also mess up the wheel... I only have a stick welder and my welding is not great.

I've bought the replacement set already so don't care what happens to these ones. Guess I'm phoning the benoni bros.

What happened, have you fried the ecu yet or sent the vehicle up in flames??!
 
Drill 2 holes in the indented disc, each opposite each other, then stick 2 thick nails/bolts in it, use a screwdriver to lever the two nails/bolts.
 
thats a bit of a myth to a degree btw - about removing the battery before welding.
My daughter's Getz went to a panel beater a few years back. After getting it back, a couple of days later there were low oil pressure warnings. Turns out the main bearings had basically welded themselves to the crankshaft, and were shredded.
 
Just drill it out and replace the lug.

Did the same with a steering wheel bolt (red threadlocker and high torque value). Get the center, drill with a small bit to a depth just beyound the where the bolt meets the rim. Drill as square as possible. Then drill out with progressively bigger bits. At some point, the material lost will cause the bolt to sheer where it meets the rim and there goes the tension, making it easy to unscrew the bolt
 
easy fix buy a spare cheap socket . hammer it on as far as you can get in on. then weld the inside of the net to the socket. It will give extra hold and the heat will break it loose.
 
Drill across the nut and the stud and hammer the nut out. You are going to ruin the stud as well so that will need replacing. Replacing a stud is easy to do. Once the wheel is removed, get the hub in a vice and Morne Vd Berg whats left of the stud out and fit a new one.

When you get the hub and wheel tighten the nut with a TORQUE WRENCH to factory settings. Drive the car around the block and torque it back up to seat the stud in properly.

If this slips....eina. And it will slip due to under penetration from welding. Might as well weld the stud out
