No the army can play a role in visible policing, which is also needed to prevent crime in general. It is hard to kidnap a women if you have 5 other fat army women staring at you.

The claim with the army is that they do not have all the non lethal ways to capture criminals like the police. That is not a problem if they 1. Just work with the police 2. Just shoot violent criminals.

In an ideal world we should just have body cameras like the US.

There's two parts of this.
1. Catching the murderers, that is detective work.
2. Is preventing more murders.

The police can do the visible policing. You hardly ever see any police on patrol these days. When the ANC held their manifesto launch there were cops all over the place.

The police need to be out and about stopping and searching suspicious people. How do all these criminals manage to get around so freely armed to the teeth?
