To me, quite a bit of analysis of the data is superficial at best, so while the review/content based on it, seems decent, it actually misrepresents quite a bit of the series played out, how and why the Boks won/ABs lost.

Would expect the somewhat shallow analysis from a youtube content creator, but from a professional coach such as Gold, it's just buying into the narrative, media push, rather than actually doing any leg work on reviewing the data.

Two low hanging fruit examples:
1) 1st test is a gross distortion for example. And he completely ignores this in his analysis.
The match the Boks lost, we scored less tries BUT
In the matches they won, they scored more tries.
A simply top down analysis is a total misrepresentation, a professional coach should know better.

2) Penalties are conversions of points in the 22 and they are discounted entirely. Taking less risk doesn't equal playing less rugby. Even the 32 phases by NZ itself is a coin with two sides. Yes, great retention of the ball, to not lose it, but then, 32 phases, that alot of going nowhere too, spinning your wheels, and tells actually says alot as to how the ABs lost.

Bonus - basic review of how much 1st test distorts the reality:
After the 1st test, Boks were 4 tries and 17 points behind.
After 4th test, Boks were 3 tries behind, 10 points ahead.

So, match 2-4, the Boks outscored the ABs by 1 try and outscored them a total of 27 points, and this even ignores the soft tries given away in 3rd and 4th test in the last minute of the game when the game was well won already.

Yeah. One could argue the context was missing from Gary's synopsis. Valuable assessment none the less. Calling it BS is a stretch and a bit unfair.

All Blacks become masters at scoring meaningless tries ie the last to score in all 4 tests, 3 of them very much consolation tries and 1 to rub salt in the wound (Ellis park).

A key takeaway for me is if the All Blacks fix their set piece, they will be incredibly difficult to beat.

I'm intrigued to see how they fair in their last 6 tests of the year. I'm expecting them to rack up some BIG scores. England will be a proper test, cause England have a pack. The rest, Scotland, Australia, Wales are cannon fodder.

The flip-side of that coin is if the refs start looking a bit closer at their arrivals at rucks, they are going to lose at lot of their momentum.

There is alot more wrong with his post, those were just easy, low hanging fruits.

My primary issue, is that it pretty much just buys into the nonsense narrative, which is frustrating and imho, horse manure and as a professional coach, his review/analysis should be better than the avg joe soap on youtube, instead of much the same drivel.
