The Workout and Fitness Thread

No. I thought I could do 3 sets of 5 reps each hand but when I saw my form in front of mirror, it wasn't good after 3 reps so I fed that prompt to chatGPT and it came up with more sets and less reps. Even though chatGPT is wrong in this case, it won't hurt really. 4 weeks will pass quickly.
Ah... ok now I understand. Thanks for the clarification.

Somewhere like 10 years back I was training to do the midmar. I was klapping 1.6 - 2km sessions in the pool relatively easily... but I got flu the week leading up to the swim. And... I never got back in the pool. Waaaaay back in the day I used to swim galas in primary school. Used to go swim all over, parys, sasol etc etc.

But I think it's time to get back in the pool.

Overall my health is ASTRONOMICALLY better. This year I've dropped 11cm around mah belly, 8cm around my waist (belt line). I'm down 8kg in the last few months. I'm eating better. Feeling better and I don't wanna kots when I look at myself in the mirror.
why not? get back in the pool

btw did your GP do this kind of check up? id like to do that

Training for a few months to get ready and then not being able to do the first open water swim left me feeling disappointed... and now that the goal was missed I had no juice left in the tank.

Yep. However my GP is also a sports doctor. Not all GPs had treadmills and EKG/ECG (I never remember which is which) stuff at their practice. My previous GP didn't.

Man, these plyometric boxes are so expensive.

I was thinking of buying some cheap crate and reinforcing it with wooden planks that I have already.

Or to use ottoman that is cosmetically bad due to tea/coffee/food spills & reinforce that one.

Does it sound like it could work ?

Any box should work. I used an uncovered wood box once and cut my leg badly when I failed the last jump lol.

Tie a piece of string at a certain height and jump over it?

Oh yeah but it is not only for jumping. Trying my slow journey towards pistol squat and now past the stage of stepper height. Need something inside the house that can be used easily instead of going in the garden and finding things to do this.

Don't have weight plates or anything to do this in the house. Chairs are too high and not really strong. For now, cautiously using ottoman but thinking of stripping it and doing it properly. I think Ottoman will be more stable & useful if I remove the round feet.

For the pistol squat stuff one of those small metal barstools might work. These short ones are about half a metre high.

I designed one years ago in Fusion360 intended to be cut on a CNC router from a single sheet of plywood.

@ronz91 @saor don't you guys both have CAD skills. Any interest in doing an open source project for DIY fitness equipment?

Interested to see how this goes. For some exercises, 1 or 2 reps is viable, but not something I would expect to have regularly or as the main part of the plan.
When it comes to single handed exercise, I think this is even more so, it sounds like it is too heavy, and I would be concerned around injury and personally would do lower weight and get the rep count to 5 or more, possibly even 10 or 12 with slower reps before bumping up

Thanks, concerned about injury too so taking it slow. If I can't do 5,4,3,2,1 ladder on a specific day then I don't stress it because KB press is not my main staple. It is mainly swings, lunges and squats.

This is one of the issue with Kettlebell that it is impractical* to buy KB's with 1Kg increments. If my 1-2 month program like this doesn't go up from 5,4,3,2,1 to normal 5x5 reps, I would consider using dumbbells to see if it helps KB press. There is no rush really.

*I mean there are adjustable alternatives in KB available but those are too expensive.

Garmin has no chill. At all.

Been out since may with tendon issues in my knee, and then some other minor illness. Easing myself back into things..
