The Rugby Thread - Part Deux

This really annoys me. The Springboks lose and its lets blame quotas/blacks again. Why does black players always need to be demeaned after a loss? Fassi genuinely had good games for the Boks back in 2024 but has lost form since returning from injury. Rassie obviously wants to give him time to reach that level again. He shouldn't be in the team anymore after today but it's nothing to do with quotas. He is not there because he is black. He was picked because the coach had faith that he could get back to where he was before.

Horn looked absolute shite when he came on. He looked like he could barely run. Why is he there? To make up the persecuted Afrikaner quota?
Seems you struggle with comprehension?
Firstly I did not blame any black players. I said its not doom and gloom and blamed the long and hard series we just finished.
If I had any critique on players it was on Pollard and the centres.

Other people complains about Fassi every game he plays. Not me. I just explained what the situation is in my opinion. If you think colour and race has no effect in SA rugby, you live in a fools paradise. Everything in SA is about race. The government let us know that every day for the last 30 years. Do you really think there will be no uproar if we select an all white team? Even just 5 players of colour in the match 23 will probably hit the headlines.

So no I did not blame any black players. I just said we currently have a shortage of great black players and Fassi will probably stay in the group.

And I am the wrong guy to play your victimhood with. I have always supported the players of colour. 2023
Is Kolisi not just amazing.
In SA we mostly had captains over the years the play fairly well and then get chosen as Bok captain and within a few years they basically just earn their place in the side because they captain and not the best player anymore.
But man Kolisi has done everything you can in rugby, earned all the accolades and the money that goes with it, but still plays his heart out every game.
Must be in the running for the best captain SA ever had.

Les Kiss coaching career is quite something, has me rather looking forward to seeing what Aussies can achieve under him tbh. He has been coaching abroad longer than he has in Australia, including stints with Ireland and the Boks national teams and started out at league before switching to union.

No, your apartheid and colonial government told us everything is about race for 350 years.

There is no need to bring up quotas. Fassi was a good player who is now struggling. The coach is giving him a chance to regain form.

Unfortunately his time is now up. He is not there because the coach is looking for black players. You are not blaming black players but you still want everyone to know the black player is there because he is black.

Congrats to the Wallabies. They played smart and better than us and deserved the win. We were very poor - once again basic mistakes - knock-ons, losing the ball in contact, not kicking the ball out, players in front of the kicker, etc. Our defense was useless, we need to look at someone else. I feel that we are not so flush with our depth. Some players can't handle this level of competition it seems. I think making 13 changes was a mistake. The new guys didn't gel & the combinations did not fire. I'm a very depressed Bok fan today.
On the flip side - 4/4 wins from our boys in the URC this weekend.!

That is the problem with any form of quota/BEE. The person who is chosen/appointed will never know if he is there on merit or because there are guidelines/requirements. The solution is to abolish any form of quota/BEE and have everything based on merit.

Porthen is 22 years old with a massive future. He was one of our better players.

The last 10 minutes we actually played very good rugby. Put the Wallabies under the pump and reduced the deficit to only 4. The rest of the game was another sad story.

Still useless - he's been given a couple of chances and every time came up short - we have much better scrummers.

He is not a great scrummer I agree. Same with Wessels. You don’t get many 22 year olds that are great scrummagers. Rassie picks him for what he and Wessels does around the field.

I think this is where Rassie gets it a bit wrong when picking a B team. He needs to pick proper scrummers. Boan venter and Carlu Sadie are the 3rd choice loose head and tight head. If Wessels start it has to be at hooker. Porthen should only play from the bench until he gets his scrumming up to par.

Geez he is still a boy. Props only mature and reach their peaks at 26-28 years.

Kitchoff was also dropped as a young prop for 2015 world cup, only to come back in 2019 and 2023 as one of our best props ever.

Refs are a soft target. Tough gig....

The sport is almost impossible to officiate to a standard that would appease both teams and their fans.

That's the grey and nuanced nature of the sport and the 50/50 calls which exist within the legal framework governing how the sport is officiated...

It really is a mess.

World rugby has an obligation to make the sport safe and as such, have regulated it, to the hilt!

This is the worst “performance” I have ever seen from a “professional” hooker.

Not often in a 15 man sport you can literally blame one single player for a team loss.

My god.
