The official running thread™

Ran a race last weekend for the first time in a while, and noticed the latest trend is people blaring music from portable players. One dude at the same pace as me was playing some awful bassy noise through a speaker that could not handle the volume and was distorting the whole time. I tried to get away from him but he followed me like a stalker!

Is this some kind of retaliation to not being allowed to run with earphones?!

People are assholes everywhere.
Same as chops who have loud phone conversations or watch videos on speaker in public spaces.

Awful trend. On the plus side it forces you to push harder to get away from them.

The races should ban speakers though.

Another one I've seen: a guy blowing a whistle every breath he took. So annoying.

I've also noticed this with my last run. I think I saw 5 different people with running with speakers. One of them was a pacer...

Very annoying.

Took a 2.5 Week break....sheesh need to stop doing this. Legs are a little stiff after Sunday xD

But I am back baby.

lol I also went for a 10km run yesterday and my legs are feeling it. I did run faster than I usually do (10k PB nogal). 2 more weeks till next half marathon. I hope the weather isn't too hot because yesterday I run at 7:30 and I was SOAKED by the time I got home.

I can feel my shins are sensitive after just 1 slowish 5km :crying:

I've done some exercises for my shins that seem to have paid off 🙌 Had a lot of issues in the past. I also got a pair of very soft shoes, which might have helped too.

I did the stretches and exercises from this video

Oh cool. Will take a look when I can !

Finally hit 1000km for the year last week, so I rewarded myself with a little something...

Took a chance that they had fixed the Velocity Nitro in version 5. Wanted something different so got the red version. It's VERY bright and more a neon red than what I expected.

I'm happy to report that they definitely fixed the issues I had with VN4. The midfoot is now quite a bit wider and feels very comfortable. The toe box is also more rounded and accommodating without all that wasted extra space they normally have in the pointy front. There's still more than enough room in front of the toes.

The tongue is nice, thick and padded. I prefer it to the minimalist tongue on the Deviate Pure Nitro. My biggest issue with the Pure Nitro is that it felt too soft. The VN5 is quite a bit firmer and provides the right level of groundfeel I like. Step-in comfort is perfect. My pair arrived today, I put them on and they felt great. Looks like the Velocity Nitro(5) is back!

Also performed great in my threshold run. Clocked a 5K in around 24:40 [24:37 based on Garmin calculation]. Car blocked the road on my last km so I could have gotten a PB if I pushed harder and didn't run out of road. I also should have done an actual warmup and not gone all out from the start.
