Garmin Smartwatch and Wearables thread

I'm sad. My Venu 2's battery is starting to give issues. In the past I managed to get 10+ days if I didn't use GPS, now not so much. I fully charged it last night. 12 hours later and it is already <80% battery.

in the same boat as you.

It seems that my escapades of replacing my Venu 2's battery led to its ultimate downfall. Opened it up to take a look the other night and saw some corrosion, which can only mean I didn't seal the watch properly when I did the replacement.

Cleaned the corrosion and connected everything and the sensors came back to life, so that's a win. I am giving it to a friend at work if I can assemble it properly and it still works, but I have no faith in it living for much longer.

I wish these things were a bit more repair friendly.

The new FR70 / 170 has a replaceable battery.

Garmin launches the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro with up to 57 days of battery life

Garmin has just launched the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro smartwatches, with the latter boasting the first full titanium case and largest AMOLED screen in the Fenix line ever.

The Fenix 9 has a fiber-reinforced polymer case with a titanium rear cover, and a screen with twice the brightness of its predecessor, with a sapphire crystal on top. It's dive-rated to 40m and has leak-proof buttons. There's also 50% more RAM than on the Fenix 8, and a more powerful map engine with 30% faster panning. The watch has 64GB of storage, twice as much as the Fenix 8.

The Fenix 9 is available in 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm, and it comes with Garmin Epic, a feature that groups together activities recorded over several days, weeks, or months to create an "Epic" (hence the name). You can see your health and performance data during that time, add photos, and share everything with friends. The Fenix 9 also gives you more insights during an indoor rowing session, it comes with expanded rucking features, and new stamina tracking logic with stamina zones and stamina curve.

The Fenix 9 Pro has all of that and a new design, a 3,000-nit peak brightness on its screen, a 1.5" size display on the 51mm model, and you can get solar charging displays on "select Pro models", which "offer weeks of battery life", Garmin says. Also on select Pro models is inReach connectivity, with LiveTrack notifications through LTE, Garmin Locate, weather forecasts sent directly to your watch for any specific location, and emergency help from the 24/7 staffed Garmin Response coordination center if you need it.

Garmin’s online services are down, leaving users unable to upload their activities.

The Connect service, which is used to attach its devices such as watches and bike computers and the internet, is offline.

“Garmin Connect is currently experiencing an outage,” visitors to the version on the web are told. “We are working to resolve it as quickly as possible and apologize for the inconvenience.”

Quatix 7 got itself into some kind of state the other day.
It lost its sync with my phone and destroyed 40% of the battery in 24 hours...

Hard reset and it seems to be good again

Also noticed excessive battery usage in the last 2 days, not sure when exctly but had to charge and didnt expect to for at least a week or more

My Venu 2 is acting up. During activities it just shuts down, even though the battery is sufficiently charged.
So far, it only happens when the GPS is active (i.e. hiking, running) not during gym sessions.

From what my Google-Fu tells me, it might be an indication that the battery is failing.
When the watch uses GPS (high current draw), and it needs to drive the vibration motor for a notification, the voltage drops below the brownout threshold, forcing a shutdown.

One possible way around it is to disable the vibration during notifications. I just need to see how this can be done only for activities, as I depend on my alarm day-to-day.

I hope it will fix it, as I feel a watch should last longer than 4 years.

Battery drain was real again today
How long did you charge it for. On my Forerunner 165 I've noticed that it quickly drops 10% within a short period of time after charging (couple of hours without activities or Bluetooth).

Letting it charge for around 2-3 hours even if it already says 100% seems to solve the issue. It then only drops by 3-4% overnight which is what I'd expect.

I usually leave it for a couple hours but not always, will try a full long charge, it's just strange all of a sudden with the the Garmin issues earlier this week.

I've seen some recommendations to charge to 100%, then let it drain until shutdown. Repeat 2-3 times.

Also, clear activity logs and GPS cache, as a corrupted file can cause issues.

Factory reset, charge to 100, leave it charging a couple of hours after it's full, let it run down completely, repeat charge to 100% + a couple of hours.

Sync/backup first before you do a factory reset obvs

Jeepers that's nice. I'm in full "don't buy anything you don't need" money saving mode, but somehow stumbled across this post. It's very tempting.
