Garmin Smartwatch and Wearables thread

I really like the daily suggested workout feature on the Forerunner 745. It’s a feature that adapts to your fitness and always mixes it up. Here’s today forecast (weather allowing) - please mind the photos:

The new watches look brilliant. Battery life that the mainstream smart watches wish they could reach 20% off

The question is which watch to choose to replace my Vivo 3 which, after I think 3-4 years, is still going strong.

All i do is cycle and run , but looks like those assistants that can help you train better only come on Fenix.

AMOLED screen on Epic looks cool but I really don't care for mic/speaker. I prefer to keep things seperate when on my personal device, but then that light feature on Fenix is tempting as I normally run in the dark.

Damn you Garmin for having so many models. Now I am left with decision paralysis.
 
Bought the Instinct last year on special, R4500 I think.

Solid watch, very durable. It has all the features I need. I mainly use the Navigation via GPX files, and then all the standard items to track training. Saving way points and the ability to navigate is probably the other feature I use as well.

I switch the heart rate monitor off to preserve battery life, I consider it pointless. Also, I switch off the notifications, when I put down my phone it's for a reason :)

Apparently the solar functionality on watches is still a bit gimmicky.

The high end watches don't offer much more, just larger colorful displays, VO2 measurement and other, for like double or triple the price.

Lastly, all these extra features just consume your battery, I know they have battery saving mode, but you have to manually toggle that, what a schlep.

It looks like ordering a Garmin watch off Amazon will save you around R1000, or more.

I checked the Solar Instinct, Venu 2, and Fenix 6 Pro.

I ordered a Garmin HRM-pro from Amazon last year and it was R800 cheaper. My biggest issue is the support afterwards. Garmin's support is nothing short of epic, but Im not sure they will support a product bought outside of SA (maybe they will).

Anyone tried to get support from Garmin SA with a device bought outside of SA?

How’s the battery life after all these years?
 
No mention of the Fenix 7 on the South African Garmin page. Guess we’ll have to wait for local official pricing.

Still getting about 6 days on a full charge. I also do **believe** that watch face used could contribute to more battery usage (but that's my theory). Sometimes when I changed face, battery appeared not to last as long.
 
I am getting 2 weeks of battery life on my Venu 2.

The Venu 2 has the assistant as well, no need to go all out.

All I want to know is, how easy is it to replace the glass screen in SA.

Agree. Don't know about support of out of country purchases. My wife has a Vivo 4S and around Nov last year (so about 14 months old at the time) - top half of screen would not accept touch input and the battery ate through a full charge in about 3 hours. Took it in to Rosebank offices. They checked it out and two days later received a brand new one. I asked if I needed to give the old charging cable back as I still had it with box and everything - they said no .. so scored as now I have spare charging cable.

I love Garmin for the tools they have and their support. Love that's it device independent which gives me flexibility to move phone platforms if I want and with by bike computer , etc all my health data is one platform. Only thing still irritating me is that the watch doesn't sync in background on iOS devices (not workout - just day to day stuff like steps) - but I blame Apple for that.

Indeed. Using Tap to pay for years with GarminPay, but the Apple guys who got it last year (with FNB at least) and thought they were living in the future :P
