Garmin Smartwatch and Wearables thread

I am getting 2 weeks of battery life on my Venu 2.

The Venu 2 has the assistant as well, no need to go all out.

All I want to know is, how easy is it to replace the glass screen in SA.
See my post on their support. I would recommend buying a screen protector for your watch. I'm unsure if they are sold in South Africa, but I bought a few from Amazon along with other purchases and they go a great job. The one I have on at the moment, it like a flexible material (so not hard plastic) and it's been through thick and thin and still looks good.

I am not into exercise enough to get a serious fitness watch. But I had 2 fitbits since 2015, and they were really disappointing when I did do runs/hikes. GPS never connects/ steps always seemed inaccurate.

I guess those garmins are worth their price tag.

I got a Venu 2 in September last year and I'm pretty happy with it. The Fenix 7 / Epix looks awesome but they have way more features than I'll ever use - the only thing I'd enjoy on the Fenix range is the battery life. Going to try stick with the Venu as long as I can.

I'm not really a fan of the voice stuff on the Venu 2 Plus so I don't feel like I'm losing out there.

My only gripe with Garmin is how they seem to software lock across different ranges for no other reason than them being able to do so. The battery management features the Fenix 7 has would go well with the Venu - specifically being able to make the watch go into battery saver mode when you are sleeping. One would think it would be a feature you rolled out to a watch with an OLED screen.

My one and only regret is not being patient. I bought the Venu 2 for about 7k from Amazon. Over black friday the Venu 2 was going for around R4k after discount on the ebucks store.

The GPS functionality is robust, they catch signal within seconds.

Most of the Watches use GPS-A (basically data that helps the watch to catch the signal from a satellite), this data is updated every time it is refreshed and when you sync your watch with your phone (Garmin Connect).

My old Polar M400 needed to be plugged into a PC via USB - pain in the ass.

Only thing still irritating me is that the watch doesn't sync in background on iOS devices (not workout - just day to day stuff like steps) - but I blame Apple for that.
Weird. I have a Venu and a iPhone 11. After a round of golf, if I open the Connect app, it's there.. no manual sync. Looking at the app now, my daily steps are there

Agree. Don't know about support of out of country purchases. My wife has a Vivo 4S and around Nov last year (so about 14 months old at the time) - top half of screen would not accept touch input and the battery ate through a full charge in about 3 hours. Took it in to Rosebank offices. They checked it out and two days later received a brand new one. I asked if I needed to give the old charging cable back as I still had it with box and everything - they said no .. so scored as now I have spare charging cable.

I love Garmin for the tools they have and their support. Love that's it device independent which gives me flexibility to move phone platforms if I want and with by bike computer , etc all my health data is one platform. In general Garmin support is brilliant, especially at the Rosebank store you mention, I have had a few issues with remote support when my Fenix 6 decides that it can't find my BT earphones anymore despite using them the previous day and all I get sent is how to connect using BT and approved BT earphone lists  Syncing on my Fenix 6 is no where near as good or efficient as on my old Apple Watch 2, some information syncs seamlessly like steps but then weather is at times a massive battle to sync. Admittedly, I knew that the Fenix 6 was not as good a smart watch as the Apple but I wanted a watch better for training and the Fenix 6 has proved a lot better.

On my wife's phone, the connect app has background sync enable (IIRC the setting name) ,etc - does nothing. she doesn't do workouts so it's steps, and HR and I have to open the app on her phone for it starting to sync. I can confirm it hasn't synced anything as I click on the calendar while the sync is going on and I can see there is no data for example 5 days.

I've deleted app, reinstalled, etc - just doesn't do it (along with background gphotos/onedrive sync which also doesn't work)

However, she has notifications coming to her watch and that works like a bomb for her so the watch definitely has a stable connection to the phone. It's the one reason I don't want to switch back to iOS (I know!!)

Had fitbits before garmin smartwatches and they barely last a year before something goes wrong with them - on the other hand, their support is also good so you keep on getting replacement devices.

I just realised that my wife destroy's her smartwatches :-Fitbit, Fitbit (support replacement), Different Fitbit - stopped working after 13 months (which they sent her one from the EU but never arrived), Garmin 4S , Garmin 4S (replaced by Garmin).

Me: Fitbit (3 years), Garmin (3-4 years) :D

And she doesn't even do DIY, etc ... my devices take a beating.

Awesome  I have a Fenix 6 Pro Sapphire Titanium with an HRM Tri belt that I use for walking, running, mountain biking, Zwift, golf, etc. and I love it but it will have to last quite a while longer before it is replaced.
You even use the chest strap for walking? You’re definitely committed to accuracy, I respect that.

Why would I take the chest strap off to go walking?
Maybe I just see a walk as a walk and don’t care about the data from walking. The HR monitor on the watch should be enough.

I do however use the strap for every other recorded exercise I do.

My apologies, my sarcasm game is not that great, I only wear the HR chest strap when I run, ride or using Zwift.
