The Rugby Thread - Part Deux

Unpopular opinion but the local derbies bore the s hit out of me.. become so stale and predictable, from Currie Cup to Super Rugby to URC...

In addition to that they're so hotly contested with brother taking chunks out of brother, so tend to be attritional.

I hope we're going to see sides as stacked for the first round of the Champions cup fixtures?

A fixture against a Top 14 French club is so much more intriguing, unique and novel.. Love it. Looking more forward to Stormers v Bristol than Stormers v Sharks...

Anyway, I get the local fascination for derbies, full stadiums, tons of supporters gear sold, lots of fanfare... money spinner....
I was looking for tickets for Stormers vs Bristol, they are selling out fast, not many decent ones left.

WOW!! Great to see!! Those floor plans are sometimes misleading though as I'm certain they would include season ticket holders who often don't attend. 35k-40k would be fantastic though...

URC takes a breather this weekend and we go straight into another 2 Euro Competitions - the illustrious Champions Cup and the EPCR Challenge Cup.
Good luck to all our local teams and especially the Lions - making their debut on a sombre note after the untimely death of lock Hyron Andrews.

Impressive first 40 from the AB's. Totally unplayable, such a technically astute performance. 2nd 40 quite dull by comparison. Australia a 40 minute side, won the 2nd half 14-7 but 7-36 at halftime and all that 2nd half comeback did was save them from a more embarrassing defeat.

Once again, Aussies lack of depth exposed. Losing Hunter and Len, new 10 to replace Donaldson and they're reduced to rubble.

NZ on the other hand lose Jordie a day before kick off and Quinn within 5 minutes of the start. No worries, Tavatavanawai and Rieko slot in and get the job done. Remarkable..

Another year under Rennie and these AB's are going to be unplayable. He's been in charge for less than 4 months!!

On the other hand, honeymoon over for Les... wins against Japan, a draw and a win against Argentina, a win against a Bok side more focused on celebrating a RGR campaign, all created a false economy for the Wallabies. I half expect their season to unravel between now and the end of the year...
