The official running thread™

I actually need to take out my Deviate 3s more. I've only put 36km on them.
I bought a pair of those and they by far my most hated shoes... They so stiff. I use them as walking casual shoes because when I run in them they destroy my body lol

I haven't used them in ages. Don't think I had any issues with the stiffness, but I did get a black toenail trying for a 5K PB in them.

Did my second Half Marathon today. The Nelson Mandela Marathon. There was some strong head winds at the start and the crowds were difficult to get through in the beginning, but I'm very happy with my time.

We did the Koeksister hill, which was CRAZY steep, I could only "run" up for about a quarter of the way and had to walk the rest.

Wow, congrats! A sub 2h is impressive.

Thanks! I really had to push for that sub 2h lol. It was way hillier than the Gun Run I did last month.
Hills are killer. My normal long run has a gradual climb all the way until my turnaround point and that usually kills my best intentions to keep it at my zone 2 HR.

Yeah I need to do more hill training. My heart rate was pretty stable there, but I did slow down quite a lot on the hills. The one hill was crazy steep (Koeksister hill). The 3rd drop in pace was a hydration station :D

I think I must have died a little last night. RHR was 39. That's the lowest I've ever seen. Normally it hovers around 42-44. ;)

Went for my first run in my Puma MagMax shoes this morning just a quick 30 minute run for some Vitality points...

Ran my fastest 5km and 1km pace

Beat my 5km PB by 35 seconds in a max stack recovery shoe lol

Been training a lot more efficiently at gym and been training hard for hyrox next year and seeing the results. If i could have run for longer i would have increased this pace a lot.

On the weekend i will take a more lighter faster shoe out and see how hard i can push.

Nice!. Those red ones look cool. Are they V3? I love the MagMax and they are deceptively fast.

Did my threshold session yesterday with the Deviate 3 and while they helped a bit I must say the fit is just too narrow for my liking. No black toenails, but one toe did rub a bit. They also felt less stable than the VN3/5/Pure. The carbon plate doesn't seem to do much for my midfoot strike only noticed more spring when I intentionally pushed more on the heel.

They are the v1's actually. We got some stock in at work so picked up a pair quite cheap.

Yea D3 are so narrow they destroy my feet i'd love to just take the carbon plate out it.

I have the DN4's in ultra red. These magmax ones are more of an orange.

Will try them out maybe Thursday.

Wait. I think the MagMax is only up to V2. I have 2 pairs of the first one. Got V2 to try out, but haven't used them much yet.

Will give the Foreverrun 3 a test this afternoon. I really like the look of the pair I got. Puma's shift to more accommodating toeboxes are great.

Thoughts on the Puma Foreverrun 3

Just came back from my first run with the Foreverrun 3 and I must say I quite like them. They are VERY stable while the stability elements are not as harsh as the likes of Kayano. V1 and V2 were very "slappy", you heard ever footfall. These felt softer and did not have that slapping sound on each stride.

The FR3 has a premium feel to them with a nice pull tab and a padded tongue. I also quite like the PWRPRINT it has on the inside side of your foot. I think heel strikers will do well with these. The mid/forefoot felt less padded than I would want. I felt the different areas where the rubber sole is. Or it could be the where the thicker outer foam meets the inner foam. More testing needed. The shoe is much heavier than the Velocity, but doesn't feel cumbersome and does great work as a base run shoe.

It feels good at around 6:00/km pace. I pushed them up to 3:50/km pace in a sprint and they could handle that as well. Definitely not a speed day shoe, but you could definitely push them if needed.

Tried the ForeverRun 2s... They hurt my shins bad

I got the ForeverRun Nitro 2s from my work and they destroyed my feet and shins. Lasted a good 15 minutes before i couldn't run anymore. Gave me shin splints and I never get shin splints. Not running they felt very stable and comfortable but I found padding in forefoot was not great and as a forefoot striker it wasn't ideal

My shins are a bit tender after volume increases and these actually helped a bit during yesterday's run. I agree that the forefoot padding is not ideal. Will take them out today too and see if I can figure out what I felt yesterday.

I also used to be a forefoot striker, but changed my running to midfoot. It's better for shock absorbtion and thus shin splints. I used to get shin splints a lot and it's not fun.

I am somewhere in between these two i can't 100% tell. I think i am a little more midfoot as well.

I think it depends a lot on the rocker of the shoe for me.
