Airmobile - Stay away

Just a note, the airmobile apn is quite diferant, had to manually configure on dual sim.

Imagine a call center tell you that you need to be without you cellphone for a month.

Sorry Sir even thou it's our problem there's nothing we can do.

Some history. Airmoble eSim went live and I decided to port my number from Telkom to Afrihost
with the view of moving my 1Gig fibre line as well.

Problem is when I applied the pixel devices was shown as support on their website but after
I asked to port, they remove pixel devices off their support list and blamed me for not reading or
looking at the supported list. It's been about 8 days that I have been trying to sort it out.

I asked the call center to sort it out and please send me a physical sim.

But was told I need to do it through the app and followed their instructions.
Cancel your eSim subscription and then apply for a new physical sim. Problem that they didn't
tell me is that the cancellation will only be processed the 1 March and when trying to apply
for a physical sim I keep getting the error that I have an active subscription.

What do I do now ? Just got told by call center nothing they can do and I have to be without
my number till 1 March.

Same issue, iPhone 12 not supported (Specific model number) issue with MTN working with Air-mobile.

I have to simply wait the issue to be resolved and or physical SIM needed. The said they are sending a physical SIM over the weekend. So a bit different from your story, however I've no faith...I regret the porting to them immensely...sitting without my number and locking me out out of needed items in my life that requires my phone number.

You should be able to request the config via *135# option 1 - worked for me on my Samscum S21FE

You can still sign up for data only products on the website using the old Afrihost APN on an MTN SIM. It is just the airtime and data packages that are no longer sold and is now the full mvno route.

Clients on the old Air Mobile (airtime and data) packages will still be able to continue using it. I don't think Afrihost will force clients over to the new service. The option is out there to port your existing number and get the data and airtime on the old package transferred to the new package.
Thanks for the info but unless they support esim for my Apple Watch I can't justify moving to Afrihost.

@rterblanche, you'll be thrilled to know that 2 years later, the AirMobile eSIMs still don't install on my Pixel device. I've used my Pixel in four different countries (including on MTN and Nedbank Connect), with at least six different service providers over the years, and have not once had any issues.

The support processes you mentioned haven't improved either. If anything, it may have gotten worse. I've had at least eight different WhatsApp conversations, none of which appear to be linked to my profile. Every chat starts from square one, and every agent runs the same script from step one, convinced they'll fix it this time.

Calling the help desk is the same. Nothing seems to get recorded against my profile, so each call is fresh context and back to step one.

On Wednesday morning I raised a ticket in ClientZone. Since then I've been the only one updating it, apart from one entry from a WhatsApp agent, and only after I asked him to post it. (I also have fibre with Afrihost, and that side has been far more efficient, though maybe my install just followed the happy path. Different BU perhaps?)

Even with the full history in that ticket and a single request to escalate, agents 7 and 8 on WhatsApp still tried to convince me they could fix the install if I just followed their troubleshooting steps.

I have received more information from talking to @Afrigirl on this platform than via the official Afrihost system. I don't really understand what the point of having Support Tickets is if they are not actively updated and used to communicate with the customer (external or internal).

Thanks to Afrigirl, I now know a physical SIM has apparently been issued and, as of late yesterday, was still waiting for courier collection. I don't know who the courier is, whether the address is correct, or whether they have an alternative number to call. I'm in a complex with no buzzer at the main gate. I can't find the waybill number she sent on any courier site.

Apart from the hours I've lost this week, I've also spent more on calls to the 0800 number (which is not toll-free) than the value of the entire first month of my R99 AirMobile subscription.

I also received a threatening email warning (PLEASE TREAT THIS AS EXTREMELY SERIOUS in shouty CAPS) that my service will be disconnected because of a failed initial payment of R9.60 for the prorated final days of last month. No, that is not a typo. Nine Rand Sixty.

This has brought out the worst in me, and I hate that. The WhatsApp agents were doing their best with the tools they were given. I put this whole disaster squarely at the feet of AirMobile management. The system is clearly very broken. The question is whether there is any appetite to fix it. Possibly not. It's been two years since the original post in this thread, and it sounds like edge cases still just drop on the floor.
