Imagine a call center tell you that you need to be without you cellphone for a month.

Sorry Sir even thou it's our problem there's nothing we can do.

Some history. Airmoble eSim went live and I decided to port my number from Telkom to Afrihost
with the view of moving my 1Gig fibre line as well.

Problem is when I applied the pixel devices was shown as support on their website but after
I asked to port, they remove pixel devices off their support list and blamed me for not reading or
looking at the supported list. It's been about 8 days that I have been trying to sort it out.

I asked the call center to sort it out and please send me a physical sim.

But was told I need to do it through the app and followed their instructions.
Cancel your eSim subscription and then apply for a new physical sim. Problem that they didn't
tell me is that the cancellation will only be processed the 1 March and when trying to apply
for a physical sim I keep getting the error that I have an active subscription.

What do I do now ? Just got told by call center nothing they can do and I have to be without
my number till 1 March.

Lol Pixel devices aren't sold here. Why should local telco's support them? Buy a better smartphone next time.
People travel to South Africa with different type of devices and they might opt to use a local SIM for data. The eSIM should not be a limiting factor. If Telkom can do it then why not MTN?

Ok happy to give feedback. They call center finally helped me to get a new sim ordered.

Think they need some processes looked at in the call center but at least they helped. Will see how it goes for the next few months and then make the decision if I still will move my fibre line as well.

Yah it does look like an MTN issue and they need to ensure that the eSIMs are enabled for pixel devices.

You can order a new sim card, i ordered 2 using the same details. Then you can tell them to cancel the esim in march.

It used to be that you could buy an MTN sim from anywhere and easily convert that to Afrihost - has that changed?

As far as I understand it, Afrihost now being a full MVNO now means you can no longer sign up with a prepaid MTN simcard and use their APN.
To sign up now you have to order a physical simcard from Afrihost or sign up and use esim then either port to the new network or get a new number assigned.
Apparently the current clients on the old Afrihost APN will continue to work but this will be discontinued eventually, they haven't said when so we will have to see.

Curios why Pixels aren't supported. Not because I expect them to do extra work to support them but surely the eSIM implementation is a standard that should work across all devices.
I have a Pixel 7 and have not been able to get the AirMobile eSIM to work so know it doesn't. Just curious about exactly why that is the case.

I think there is some device validation running in the background to check if the device is approved or not. Why you want to do something like this I don't because who is going to manage it? What if they decide it is not good enough after 5 years

I don't understand why it is so difficult for airmobile to support pixel devices. Everyone keeps saying it's a MTN issue but I have been using a MTN esim on my Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel watch for more than a year now.

I think everyone is blaming MTN because all the mvno operators on their network doesn't support Pixel.

You can still sign up for data only products on the website using the old Afrihost APN on an MTN SIM. It is just the airtime and data packages that are no longer sold and is now the full mvno route.

Clients on the old Air Mobile (airtime and data) packages will still be able to continue using it. I don't think Afrihost will force clients over to the new service. The option is out there to port your existing number and get the data and airtime on the old package transferred to the new package.

In another thread, I am pretty sure I saw one of the afrihost reps mention that we have to get a new SIM for the Air Mobile one, it's not like Afrihost Mobile where we could use an MTN SIM.
Only the data only new signups are on the MTN SIMs. Airtime and data is on the new Air Mobile mvno SIMs

@AfriGuy @Afrigirl @AfriNatic

For how long will you continue offering new signups on MTN simcards using he old Afrihost APN?
Are there any plans to discontinue the old system or will it run concurrently with Airmobile for the foreseeable future?
Afrihost has been pretty vague about this, would be nice to have a straight forward answer.

To add on this question , are we going to be able to transfer data from Data only to the new sims @Afrigirl , @AfriNatic?
