Your temu orders

I have an order that has been stuck with the status "In Transit - Air Freight Loading" since sunday afternoon. Is this normal that somthing gets stuck at the "loading dock" for 4+ days? The advertised delivery window is 21-30 October, so they still have time to make it up, but it just seems odd to be stuck waiting to be loaded onto a flight for that long.
That's pretty normal. There's only 2 direct flights a week to JHB that I can see.
It should fly tonight.

Just paid some attention to a notification that did not register with me previously : "Import-related fee is excluded for items shipped from outside South Africa"
and trying it out :
"A fixed amout will be charged at checkout..." a low cart was R34. R2455 is R319 - so not really fixed on the order.

I noticed today the same thing, import fee gets added at the end in the cart. It does show the fee while viewing each item so you can still calc the full price per item

That's new - it wasn't there with my last order 2 weeks ago. At first glance it looks like they separated the customs charge from the item cost to make things clearer, and therefore I would expect item costs to have dropped.

However, every single item that I ordered still costs the same, but now this additional charge is there. It suddenly makes everything significantly more expensive. When they started including customs charges originally there was a jump in price, now there is another. Someone along the chain is greedy...

Also, this cannot be duty charges because, for one, clothing items appear to have the same percentage fee attached than non-clothing items - and we all know that clothing should be charged at a much higher rate than other items. So unless they have now made it super obvious that they're not paying duties correctly, this is an additional "handling fee". Maybe they've changed couriers and the new carrier wants a slice? (Feels like SpeedAF and AliExpress all over again...)

For items shipped from outside South Africa, an Import-related Fee will be applied at checkout
Hmmm I am wondering if they've seperated it again. And now show it as a separate line item?

Now this is dodgy, add two R20 items to the cart, payment is R78, after all credit and discounts are taken off.

That sucks, the gravy train is slowing down :(

Just an update on this. The status has remained unchanged since the 21st.

This order is still showing the same “airlines wharehouse operations” with the latest update on 26 Oct at 06:00 - with an additional message now saying

“sorry, a new tracking update for your package is not yet available due to a flight delay. Your package is being arranged to be shipped out as soon as possible”

Latest delivery date is supposed to be 30 October, but that seems basically impossible now, seeing as the package has not left china yet.

This is the first time I have ever experienced anything like this with any internationally shipped item off of any platform. Surely something fishy is going on. Apparently I will get a R20 “credit” if the item is not delivered by the 30th - not really sure what I am supposed to do with that….

Anyone else have Temu orders sitting at “airlines warehouse operations” for over a week already???

Well, unfortunately it didn’t fly that evening, and now, on the 28th, it’s been stuck on “airlines warehouse operations” since the 19th — nine days without a single change of status.

What do you base your claim that there are only two direct cargo flights a week to JHB. Direct from which airport in China, and operated by which airline?

Astral Aviation does operate a twice-weekly Haikou–Johannesburg freighter service, but that actually routes via Nairobi. Ethiopian Airlines also has cargo connections between China, Addis Ababa and Johannesburg, including a published three-times-weekly Johannesburg–Addis–Hong Kong freighter service. That’s before considering freight carried on passenger flights.

Temu uses third-party logistics providers, and I haven’t found anything establishing that all its South African parcels depart from one Chinese airport, use one airline, or must travel on direct flights.

The available airfreight capacity between China and South Africa is definitely much more than “2 flights per week”.

Got an update from Temu customer care now. Clearly there is a shortage of flights it would seem.

I have to chuckle at the last message, “I am really sorry the tracking hasn’t updated as quickly as you would like”.

Uhm, no, I don’t have an issue with how “quickly” the tracking updates - you can give me an update every 15 minutes if you like, I’m still going to be frustrated if the package isn’t actually moving along….

Until now they always flew twice a week from Guangzhou. I also have packages sitting at the airport for the last week or so. More R20 credits incoming.
Maybe the local resellers stocking up before this new import tax bullshine causing the delays.

Not sure what it is, but clearly there is a big problem somewhere.

Not much better once it gets this side.....

I ordered my kids some costume stuff for halloween, last update was 18 October : Your parcel is currently in transit between our JNB and PRY depots.

Went a few pages back, when did they add Import Fees now as well?

It was included in the item price, now you get this at the end:
Temu said:
Import-related fee
A fixed amount will be charged at checkout to cover all customs-related processes and costs, including applicable import taxes and fees that may be paid on your behalf in accordance with the laws and regulations of South Africa.

More like, it was included in the item prices, now you get to pay it at the end as well as in the item price.
This change was inevitable. Temu was so obviously flouting South African import taxes and vat requirements - at some point they would have had to introduce something like this.

Any progress on your orders?

I am now sitting with 3 seperate orders all stuck for anywhere between 7 & 10 days at the “airport wharehouse operations” status.

One of the orders was meant to be delivered today at the latest - obviously that won’t happen.

The other two are scheduled for latest delivery on the 3rd. Doubtful that will happen.

at what point does one simply cancel the orders and ask for a refund (to my bank account, not really interested in credit on my Temu account)

Also not buying that the Iran airspace story or fuel shortages have any relation here. Our business ordered 3 pallet loads of stock a week ago from a supplier in china, and it was delivered to Cape Town yesterday. There is definately something wrong here that is specific to Temu
