I have heard of somebody who've had an HP ProLiant ML370 server. The motherboard suffered a catastrophical failure.
Said person simply got another ML370 server, and transferred the hard drives in the same order over to the new server, which booted and continued to operate as if nothing...
Hi all
I'm in need of a 8TB 2 bay NAS device.
Now I would really like the Synology DS214+ with 2X Lan connections, excellent read write etc, but just the enclosure costs as much as my budget almost. Synology has FULL specs on their site and answer all my questions.

Hi
I am looking for a SATA controller that will support up to 15 SATA drives using Ubuntu 12.10 for my ZFS pool, any recommendations? I would like it to be supported in Ubuntu 12.10 out of the box, without the need to fiddle with drivers. Any suggestions? I was looking at the LSISAS9201-16i...
Anyone know where I can buy a RAID Card PCI-E where I can collect from (Pretoria/Johannesburg) and any recommendations? I'm not interested in host based RAID or FAKE-RAID etc... but what is generally called hardware RAID, but something that is affordable/entry-level.

Hi all
Need a bit of advice please.
I have a server with a RAID 5 array. On the OS, it is partioned into two drives, a C: and a D: drive.
Now, I would like to increase the free space on the D: drive. I am under the impression that if I insert a new physical HDD into the array, it won't...

Hi All
Since before I had battleping, I only ever got a ping of about 700ms, which I reckon would not have been quick enough to do the bigger 10 man or even 25 man raids (so I never bothered to do any of them).
Since we moved, and battleping has shown up, I get around 250 - 300ms ping...

Hey all, I am hoping someone can give me some insight on this...
As far as I know, when one has RAID1 (running through hardware RAID controller - not software based), the array gets created with a unique ID, which will allow the system to detect when a new drive has been inserted etc.
Is...

Basically I have 2x 1TB drives,
Want to take 100gb from each and raid them to one 200gb.
Will this work? I have not tried it yet, As I'm not at home.
I know something can be done in Computer management
Thanks
With all the HDD failures these days, I've started to worry about my data. After all, it's the only irreplaceable part in my PC.
How do you protect yours?
At first i considered RAID 1 using the onboard RAID in the PC. My plans were foiled when Windows install asked for a RAID drivers floppy...
