‘Monopoly hinders sector’s progress’

Govt needs to pull its fingers out of their respective pies and do something - jobs are being lost so they can make a quick, painful, buck of the people.
If promulgated as currently drafted, this legislation will preclude call centres from making unsolicited calls, for example for the purposes of marketing and telesales.
Good - I detest tele-marketers.

At the very least there should be a 'do not disturb' list they they adhere to as is the case in the states.

Meanwhile, African countries such as Botswana, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda are moving rapidly into the offshore callcentre market, and their governments are removing all barriers to entry, he says.

“English is the first language in these countries. They are turning out large numbers of graduates and employees have a positive work ethic,” says Jones.
These are good examples on how to do things the RIGHT way.

I really do hope that we are treated to a spectacular fireworks display when telkom crashes and burns...

As on telemarketers, I've been getting calls from quite a few wanting to know whether we need this person, or that service or whatever... it is driving me bonkers, and I'm going to pull a BOFH on one of these soon...

Has anyone done any research on how call center costs / expenses are structured?
Things like, local vs Int calls, incoming vs outgoing, rates / tariffs?
It would be a lot more interesting rather than mere percentages being bandied about.

Ghana is also trying to get a piece of the call center market.
