06/04/2011 - Lag

same here last nite, but, it wasnt only me. all my guildies are in the eu, and all of them at some stage or the other were complaining of lag. and unfortunately our tank had it the worst :(

tons of lag for me, tried SAIX, WA, no difference, think its the servers thats giving issues

also had lag for the past week or so around 10-12 pm getting huge lag spikes.
just happened now, my latency got up to 22k

Well last night (04/05/2011) was truly one of my most horrendous raiding experiences EVER ... Felt like a chop for most of the evening, praying that I dont get targetted for some debuff.

Omnitron heroic, @ 1500 ms sometimes up to 4000 ms... we had NO-ONE backup as reserve available, so I tried to just make do with what I have... tried Mweb, Webafrica, Axxess etc, nothing got me below 1500 ms. Proxies, no proxies....
Oh...My.... G** ... Lightning conductor... running from pools exploding... you learn to play on voice calls on Vent. I felt like a blind man raiding.
To make things worse... Trap launcher for the hunters are sooooo stuffed. 4.1 pretty much crippled hunter trapping.

Friends of mine in Bothasig area was fine on WA which lead me to believe it had to be a local exchange issue at the Bellville North exchange. Of course in true typical telkom fashion, nothing on the notice boards, no mention of any problems.
This morning I phoned in, and the Hell-desk confirmed there was problems at the exchange.
Times like these, you just dont want to raid... :-(

How was your vent latency? I don't know whats worse, having a laggy WoW or laggy vent... Boss dies while the RL is still screaming "NUKE IT"

I was sitting on average 1.3k ms last night, completely broke my rotation, lets not even discuss movement phases

Vent was choppy, but it was quite managable to hear calls... raiding however, was enough to kill my morale to never want to log in again.
And with the telkom helpdesk you never know if they give you the true story. Sometimes they will just tell people yes there was a problem but its fixed now... just to get the whining customer off the call queue.

Really hope tonight is gonna be a better evening :-/

Ive decided to take a break from raiding for a week or 2, partly because of out undersea cables <spit> and partly because wow itself is lagging. guildies and people in /2 complaining of high latency. not like our high latency, but still. methinks a lot of people have come back to see patch 4.1

I am in Belleville North (Stellenridge to be exact) on WA account doing just fine, except on Sundays 2pm-6pm latency to 1st hop shoots up to 200ms (which is about what happens when exchange or dslam links to exchange is running max capacity). Evenings are perfect for me so far.

What I do think is the problem, is all these new 512->1024kbit upgrades sending exchanges that were close to capacity running over capacity. It sounds small, but 100 guys getting the upgrade means the exchange doing 50mbit/sec more with all these uncapped accounts going around.

Uncapped ISPs are putting a huge strain on the Telkom ADSL network if you ask me, so even though they not the ones selling the uncapped accounts, that traffic is still running over their national network sadly.

Very possible, I actually mentioned the same thing to a fellow guild Saffer last night... if that is the case... I am gonna be screwed tonight again...

i was actually fine last nite, though i run 10mbs exchange, so has little extra bandwidth, i would presume.

@ Tinuva

There is 2 Bellville north Exchanges ... Mine falls under the 919 number range, however if your phone number starts with 910 you will fall under the other exchange...

If you fall under the 919 range, then I am seriously worried, since you did'nt experience any bad latencies last night....

maybe they should pay their staff a little bit more, and get them to start work before 930am. no sympathy for for telcon. it sucks for us, but at the end of the day, WE pay for them for OUR tax money (well, that has hasnt been stolen)

same exchange as my cousin, will ask if he was fine or not.

My # starts with 910, I am one of the only people in my area with a 910 #, everyone else, as in the whole street is on 919 numbers.

As far as I know, telkom calls this the WBLX (it serves nothern belleville clients) exchange, specifically the one I am on, as I have used the ISP I work at to query people for when I get my 10mbit upgrade, which coincidently is when they update this area's exchange in 3rd/4th quarter this year. I went as far as to get my hands on the actual documentation for these upgrades, though I am not allowed to give them out.

Personally I don't think the start of numbers are 100% always attached to a specific exchange, nowadays telkom actually allow these numbers to be moved around, though generally speaking they try to keep them all in the same area.
