Hi. I have the chance to sell my 2015 corolla quest with 62000km and get a 2015 1.4 d4d with 42000km. Ill only have to pay in 35k. Thoughts? Anyone here with a d4d? What is the realistic diesel usage?

I’m unsure if this is best from a money saving perspective, it will take years before you save that amount of money on fuel?
I think the cars will depreciate just as quickly as well so, I have to ask, why? If you want a new car and have the 35k to put in, why not get something a bit different? Also if the mileage is that low for the year model, the diesel particulate filter might need replacing at some point and that’s a very pricey job. Maintenance shouldn’t be much cheaper either.

Stick with the petrol. You won't recover 35k in fuel savings on a corolla. In bigger heavier cars the diesels become worth it. For a corolla if you factor in the extra maintenance costs of a diesel corolla and the 35k extra you would have to fork out, I'd say you would be worse off

I would say do it, the extra 35k is not only about fuel, the d4d will be more premium inside compared to the quest, engine is also bullet proof so no issues there, I think you will also enjoy the extra torque which will keep you from changing down at inclines etc. I also don’t think South African corollas came with dpf. Not sure about that one though.

I think that d4d is super reliable, the mileage is lower too

Stay with the petrol. Save the R35K.
Diesel engine maintenance costs are generally higher than petrol engine.

The 1.4 d4d is a much better car in terms of everything than the Quest, I would buy it just for that, not for fuel costs savings.

Even a bush mechanic can fix or maintain a toyota.
