hey guys

Ive been having this problem with my pc for the last couple of days.

ive got 3 x 320gb seagate SATAII harddrives in my PC.

For some strange reason, the one, with all my videos on acts very weird. Whenever I try to play a video file my one core (im running a E6600) maxes out @ 99% workload. and the whole pc is twitchy.

I have to copy the file to another harddrive before I can watch it.

It seems as if the HD is bombing out on me, but Its less than 6months old, and Ive never removed it from my case. Also I dont move my case around, and it is very well ventilated.

Could there be something else wrong? is there some utility I can use to check for disk errors, and is it possible to fix?

Erm please check the Event Log in Windows XP, any errors reported there?

I had the same problems you just reported recently, turns out the SATA cables that came with my Asus motherboard were very cheaply made (they look very thin compared to other SATA cables) and the reason for the stutter was constant disk errors. They were reported in the Event Log.

To access the event log, click start -> control panel -> administrative tools -> event viewer -> system

Now check for ANY errors (IE. Red circle with a white cross in the middle icon) that were reported on ATAPI/IDE/etc. anything related to hard-drives.

There will be LOT of them if it is indeed a HD problem, once you have confirmed it is HD errors post again, there are a few test you can do to determine what is causing the problems.

just checked it out.

There are ALOT of "warnings" - where the source is disk, closely followed by "errors" - source - disk/atapi/ftdisk and also plug 'n paly manager.

so shoud I try change the sata cable?
