1 IDE slot, but two are needed.

My friend has the problem of that he bought a new mobo so his PCI Express graphics card would work. But his new Mobo only has 1 IDE slot and he has 2 hard drives on IDE and two CD-Roms on IDE.

What would be the cheapest way to add an extra IDE channel, or to convert IDE to SATA.

Get a PCI IDE Controller Card, you should be able to get one for bout R200 or less. I cant think of anyway of converting SATA to ATA.

you can convert sata to pata, just get a sata to pata convertor (ermmm...seriously)
but it would be cheaper just to get a pci ide controller, but you probably only have 2 or 3 normal pci slots, so if you have loads of add-in cards you will need to sacrifice something to add this extra pci device.

We use them at work often here, as we do drive duplicating, so have to convert from sata-->pata and also from pata--->sata depending on the circumstance.

Its on the Rectron pricelist so i guess from anyone that buys from rectron, but there's proberbly other suppliers that also hav those type of cards. Maybe PM person, im sure he'll be able to help.

You can get a SATA bridge. Little circuit board that plugs into the drive. Converts it into SATA.

If you are going for the ide pci card get the one which has raid capabilty.
