Is it possible for me to run 2 ADSL Modems (2 Connections) on 2 seperate accounts on 2 seperate PCS's all on the same ADSL Line???

I.E.

Computer1: -> Modem1 (OpenWeb Uncapped)

Computer2: -> Modem2 (WebAfrica 2 GB)

???

I know there are other ways of doing this from a software perspective... but is the following possible???

not as far as i know. it will be like 2 trains trying to go down the same rail road at the same time.

Cannot use two modems but one modem on a LAN with each PC initiating it's own session using XP RAS client.

Thanks so its actually quite simple from the XP side of things.

I got a LINKSYS WRT54G wireless router linked to a Billion 5200S ADSL modem. How do I set the router in "briged mode"?

The options available on the router are as follows:

--> Automatic Configuration DHCP (I am assuming this one)
--> Static IP
--> PPPoE
--> PPTP
--> L2TP
--> Telstra Cable

??

Still not going to work, in order for bridge to work obv the router has to synch with the exchange. Try plugging two routers onto the same line and watch that only one will be able to synch, the other one will not be able two. Therefor its impossible to do what you are trying to do. Afaik..

PPPoE is the option you want for bridging, once bridge has been enabled you can create broadband dialup connections on each pc you would like connected. Remember that the more connections the lower the bandwidth per connection depending on how much each on is using at the time.

Ok wait now i am completely lost.

Why would the router need to sync with the exchnage when the Billion modem is doing that???

I need to connect 2 accounts. Now if the router is setup to use PPPoE with Account 1 and the i setup a PPPoE connection on another computer using Account 2??? Which account will the second computer use for its bandwidth Acc1 or Acc2? As far as I know in theory the computer with a PPPoE Connection using Acc2 will actually user Acc1 for its bandwidth coz that i was the router is setup to do ????

Am i right, wrong or completely missing the point?

Acc2.

ADSL Modem -> WRT54G -> Computer 1 (uses Account 1)
ADSL Modem -> Computer 2 using PPPoE (uses Account 2)

Bear in Mind i only got 1 ADSL Modem and 1 WRT54G Router.
If thats the case then thanks, you have sorted out my problem :)

Ok have tested and tried setting up a WAN MiniPort PPPoE Connection in WinXP.

Setup:
1 x Billion 5200S
1 x WRT54G

WRT54G Setup to use WebAfrica Prepaid Account.
And on my local machine I have setup a PPPoE connection to point at my OpenWeb Uncapped Account.

Unfortunately the PPPOE connection doesnt go through. just fails each time. Error 678: Remote Computer did not respond.

any ideas???

Your second PC must use the Billion 5200S as it's gateway and not the WRT54G

Got it working now

Fix:

Took the network cable going from ADSL Modem to WRT54G Router from the "Internet" port to a normal LAN Port.

Router cant dail in using PPPOE now so I have to setup PPPOE on each client. But its fine and working now.

thanks

Hi Chaps,
I want to setup the same network as described above.
Just need to know what username and password details are entered into the modem or are they left blank?
Thanks Clanser

If you mean the login details to access the config page of the router then consult the documentation for the default password of the router (RTFM). You may need to do a hardware reset to restore the defaults.

If you mean the username and password for the DSL account - go buy one from an ISP. There are plenty of prepaid ones around and you aint gonna get a free one :D

I your modem is in bridge mode you can't enter a username. You do that on each PC in the Dial-Up connection.

PS: If you have reset your modem make sure you set up a new password for the modem. Do not keep the default.

Set your router to Bridged RFC 1483 mode on some routers or set to PPPoE and enable bridge. After that, you will not be able to enter usernames on the router. You then go to XP or Vista and create a "broadband connection that requires username and password."

2 Routers will not sync on the same line! Some routers (Telkoms' MArconi 4 port and ZyXEL) actually allows you to run the router in PPPoE Routed mode and Bridged mode at the same time. On the MArconi, set to PPPoE and then enable bridge, enter your user details on the router and create a Broadband dialup on XP. On the Zyxel, setup as PPPoE but in the advanced config button, click the box to "Allow PAssthrough"
