We are only a 3rd world because of companies like Telkom that hold us back, that is why people compare us to other countries all the time. We could become a first world because we have the potential, just need to stop the likes of Telkom from holding us back, if that is at all possible

I agree with you. It's just makes me mad when I see what the other countries offer their internet users. Would be good if people would just stop reminding us about it, cause it is going to take some time before we are where they are...know what I'm saying?

South africa is not purely a 3rd world country, i would certainly not rate areas such as johannesburg, and more specificly the sandton area, as third world

Technically "3rd world" is a very "20th Century" saying, now we're classified as "developing".

Personally I rate countries like SA and Brazil as "2nd World"

2 distinct economies, one part is formal first world and one informal 2rd world.

As said before while Telkom is an evil monopolist, it's the law and regulations that hold the country back by not allowing the free market to balance them out.
