Well...Pc is no more.I'm gonna have roughly R12k to buy a whole new rig from scratch.Any ideas as to what to get cause it's primarily gonna be a gaming rig...


And for wabbit16...Soz dude...lightning sucks...
 
No prob K, these things happen...just glad your SO is okay! It could've been a lot worse if a life was lost

I assume the case is still in allright condition (albeit a bit 'shocked')? :D
 
That's not a great start to the weekend. Well they say lightning never strikes the same place twice, so from now on you should be safe ;)

Bliksem! I work in an IT workshop, and I have seen my fair share of damaged cases but never one that sound that bad! We have had two that has been shot at though...the cases do not take well to .303 slugs, and the motherboards...well, as you can imagine:whistle:

Are you sure you will get money? My insurance guys (Momentum) were insistent that with computers/notebooks you don't get a payout but the system get's assessed by a IT firm and you are provided with a equivalent replacement.

In my case, that meant trading in custom built i7-950 in a Coolermaster case (with 800W dual rail Gigabyte PSU), HD4980, 4gb of 1333RAM with a Mecer 'gaming' system which although isn't that bad (got a slightly better graphics card) it stiall has it's problems as do almost all Mecer products do.

if was insurance company, i would not paid our for client using gigabyte psu :P

Well I also heard that there is a small chance of them paying out otherwise equivalent system...
 
Kelevra, hope you didn't lose any data! Or did you format it by the time the bolt struck?

If you still have the PC ask your insurance if you may take it to 3 diff PC shops. Get them to quote & submit. then hopefully you can have a non HP/Mercer etc branded PC & rather get custom built.

The exact opposite is true, in fact.

If lighting has a path to get to your computer, (e.g. aerial telephone line, exposed power lines), the odds are good that it will happen again and again, until you do something to change it.

Just tell them it was a custom built system and a off the shelf one wont do. Tell them you wan't the cash to build a new one as it's a high end gaming rig.
