10/10/10 security concerns shot down

Computer security firm Sophos has shot down rumors that a "10/10/10" virus will strike computers at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday -- October 10, 2010.

Ah, that's the same day that Ubuntu 10.10 gets released, so I'll be on Linux for Sunday and leave the Windows 7 pc switched off.

Well this weekend I've been battling the latest pesky W32/IRCBot-ACI. Dammit! Seems I got it from a memory stick! It was running hidden in a Nikalod folder..another pesky problem. Damn virii!

That one got averted by IT professionals sitting through nights testing stuff. I know - I was one of them. Being on call while everyone else partied.

It was overblown, but the reality was that there was an issue and it could potentially have had big consequences.

I dont see what the big deal is, most windows pc's have a virus every day of the week

I think after the Y2K BS the prophets and pundits of IT lost all credibility. There was also the 9999 (9/9/1999) scare for the Cobblers (COBOL programmers) which pretty much amounted to nothing. And they will all swear on their mothers graves that it was their forethought that prevented these disasters LOL
