Please post your results (success of failures) on upgrading to 10.6.3. Make sure you ass your hardware specs and what kexts you are using. Also let use know if you see any performance / stability increases.

Heres mine:

Hardware
Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2C
3.1GHZ Intel Core 2 duo
Chameleon RC2
9800 GT 1GB Inno 3D VGA

Kext used in EXTRAS folder:
fakesmc
FramebufferDisabler
LegaccyALC883
NullCPUPowermanagement
OpenHaltRestart
PlatformUUID

Results:
Downloaded the update and ran it. No kernel panics. After update rebooted and worked fine. No sound though. Will have to reinstall audio. I see an improvement in graphics though, must faster, snappier. Finder and System Prefs faster. Safari faster. Network all working

UPDATE:
Sound working now (ALC 883) by installing AppleHDA.kext from 10.6.2 and HDAEnabler.kext from 10.6.2.
Everything working perfect. Mouse seems faster, had to slow it down in Sys Prefs.

I give it a :D

Too scared to try the update tbh. Spent lots of blood sweat and tears getting my hacky to run.

Well if you're rocking 10.6.2 already, and your kexts are installed to a seperate directory, like /Extra/Extensions, everything should be smooth sailing.

I always check Netkas' blog first before updating and then everything is all good.

Sorry I have temporarily removed OSX86 from my PC otherwise I would post my results.

Well i have a second hardrive that mimics my OS drive (SUPER DUPER), this way i can test any updates and also if my drives crashes i can just plug the other drive in and carry on.

I managed to get the sound working BTW, had to install AppleHDA.kext from 10.6.2 and HDAEnabler.kext from 10.6.2

If it can't be done on a Mac then you probably don't need to do i

You know, I was expecting a joke - like what's the difference between PB and Jam (an upcoming joke in HIMYM)

My netbook is still on 10.6 - will upgrade next week when MTN's R50 unlimited allows the download.

Hardware as per sig.
Updated this morning... No problems here either. Also backed up my AppleHDA kext - as most major updates replaces it with the original one. Re-installed it and sound is working. I removed the SleepEnabler kext, as Netkas warns it causes a kp again. Hope they get a new version updated soon. I am used to sleep mode instead of shutting down. To be honest, I have not noticed much difference yet.

Edit: Seems I was paranoid about the SleepEnabler kext for nothing. The 10.6.2 version does not kp in 10.6.3. Only the old 10.6.0 version does... happy about that!

@Shardie...
I use the same audio kexts as you. ie. modified AppleHDA with the HDEnabler. Do you get Headphone out and mic in on the front panel? I only get sound from the Built-in Output... which uses the rear connector only. Front audio out is dead. Weird, since both worked in Leopard with the ALC883.kext. This is just an annoyance really, as it means I have to disconnect my home theatre line out when I need to use headphones for skype. (front mic also does not work, have to use the rear mic in).

Sorry I havent tried my front panels as I dont use them. I made a custom case the size of my motherboard.

hi there,
I have almost the same hardware:

Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2C
2.9GHZ Intel Core 2 duo
Chameleon RC4 PC_EFI 10.6
9400 GT 512MB

and so I did the 10.6.3 update
but I did NOT back up AppleHDA.kext or any other kext.
well, I ended up without audio.
after some google search I found this topic.
I tried some AppleHDA.kext_10.6.2 that I found on the internet, but it didn`t work.

so please, I have two requests:

1) could you please post the AppleHDA.kext from 10.6.2 and HDAEnabler.kext that you have??
2) do you have a dsdt.aml patched from this exactly mobo GA-G31M-ES2C? can you post it?

otherwise the 10.6.3 update is fine for me.

mouse still lags
using 32bit mode
having fun!!

thanx in advance

UPDATE: I found the correct AppleHDA.kext from 10.6.2 and HDAEnabler.kext and so the audio is working fine.

my /extra/extensions folder:

AppleHDA.kext
fakesmc.kext
HDAEnabler.kext
LegacyALC883.kext
NullCPUPowerManagement.kext
OpenHaltRestart.kext
PlatformUUID.kext
RealtekR1000.kext
SleepEnabler.kext

now everything works!!
still in 32bit mode

I see that I have more kext than you!!!

I am using a dsdt.aml extracted and patched from a GA-G31M-ES2L mobo
I can extract my own dsdt.dst but when I try to compile it I get an error.

@wiper : great that you got it working. my dsdt.aml is not configured for my mobo. The rest of my kexts are in the /system/library/extensions folder thats why you seem to have more than me.

Good thing I did search here first, my hardware is almost identical so now I now which kext files to download.

Gonna try and install 10.6.3 today on a spare drive.

Using an MSI Wind, everything running pretty good.

A few random kp's, but that's to be expected.

Can anyone explain to me how to boot the Retail DVD with Chameleon 2 RC4?

I have Chameleon on a bootable usb stick and it loads and everything, it however does not detect the dvd. If I out the dvd into a winxp machine I cannot see the disk contents except for bootcamp and the remote installer pops up and if I go through the steps it picks up the install dvd so I'm assuming my dvd is good.

Do I have to copy EFI or anything to the chameleon stick?

Try installer Myhack installer to the USB stick (you need access to a Mac or hack for this)

Anyway, my setup: Asus P5KPL-AM SE, Intel Celeron E3300, nVidia 8400GS. Everything works except ethernet. I have wi-fi via an Asus WL-138G v2 PCI card. Occasional kernel panic caused by VoodooHDA kext.

This is the most idiotic thing about all these hacks, most require you to have access to a OS X already, really stupid if you ask me.

I'm using the RebelEFI/Phystar bootcd now to get things going. Found it via this guide http://osx86sv.wordpress.com/2010/02/12/how-install-osx-10-6-2-on-an-pc-asus-p5-series-motherboard/

Next I need to figure out Multibeast, PC EFI 10.6, kext helper, kext files and where to find them.

Ya, that's exactly the problem I'm facing. I'm quite amped to get this working on my laptop, I just don't have access to a Mac though :(. Is there a way to install it without a mac?

http://osx86sv.wordpress.com/2010/02/12/how-install-osx-10-6-2-on-an-pc-asus-p5-series-motherboard/ I used this followed by Multibeast

or you could try http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/iboot-multibeast-install-mac-os-x-on.html

Both methods are about the same and use vanilla retail Snow Leopard install DVD's without requiring access to a Mac. Very easy to do.

I really don't understand why there are so many guides out there with roundabout ways of installing it, it's frigging ridiculous and confusing as hell.

Personally I use a pre-made distro to get myself started. Hazard 10.6.2 is an excellent distribution, well worth downloading if you have unlimited internet. I can burn anyone a copy who really needs one.
