10.6.3 on Hackintosh's (Post your results)

Hi

I am still running 10.5.8 and have no issues but cannot get my iburst drivers to work on my PCMCIA card.Don't know what drivers yo use since i have used every single one of it to try and make it work. I tried to install 10.6.2 but after rebooting i have to edit some files in the extra directory but says path cannot be found .... any suggestions?

Both methods are about the same and use vanilla retail Snow Leopard install DVD's without requiring access to a Mac. Very easy to do.

I really don't understand why there are so many guides out there with roundabout ways of installing it, it's frigging ridiculous and confusing as hell.

i usedTony's guide & i mus say its vrek easy..

im running Snow Leopard 10.6.3 :) , iLife 09 , iWork 09.

Everything except Apples fooked mouse acceleration which is fooked by design. Some people it does not bother, others it drives to insanity :D

Yes... did the update last night. Yet again, had to re-install the 10.6.2 AppleHDA kext - new kext, as with 10.6.3, resulted in no input or output devices detected. Also needed a new Sleepenabler kext which I got from Insanelymac. The older kext results in a KP. My LAN was broken and had to re-install the new official Realtek driver (from the Realtek sight). Other than that, for some reason, my Hackintosh is booting 7 seconds faster than before (23 seconds... almost as fast as Windows 7 @17 seconds). Obviously something in the update made my hack even more compatible. Getting 4190 on Geekbench - was doing 3980... so not much in that.

Impressive score! Didn't realize the Q9400 makes that much of a difference. Holding on upgrading for now. My hackintosh is way overdue for upgrade, but I'm still impressed with the performance I get from the old E7400. Would like to go i7 when the pricing comes down. Ran the tests on our i-macs at work. They average 3800. Happy to know I'm still in the ball park.

EDIT: Netkas are releasing support for a lot of the newer ati cards for SL soon. Keep an eye out. Glad I stayed with Nvidia. Adding an EFI string to com.apple.boot.plist was all I needed to do (no extra kexts - operates using the standard mac Nvidia drivers) and that has worked from T to L to SL throughout all updates without a hitch and without needing to be updated.

had another score of 9500+ clocking at 3.92ghz... dunno why that submission disappeared

speaking of nvidia i have an 8500gt that i just could't get full graphics on, with 10.6.2-4.... nothing i did would work... that was with my other box, g31m-s2 board

It should work via graphicsenabler. You should try the other DVI port, and using a DVI-VGA adaptor.
 
Update:
with my 9800GT, QE/CI was not enabled after updating to 10.6.4
I only used EFI strings. I did not notice as everyone reckons that if qe/ci is enabled, the task bar would be transparent and you would have the ripple effect in Dashboard. That's not entirely true. DVD player will not play dvd's if qe/ci is not enabled. After updating, dvd player would quit. So after a lot of searching and reading, I found that the only guys affected are those who are using 3rd party graphic enabler kexts and those using efi strings. The guys who injected their graphics into DSDT still had qe/ci. So, I followed this guide: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/01/advanced-dsdt-fixes-nvidia-graphics.html and removed the efi strings from com.apple.boot.plist and guess what! QE/CI is now enabled! Bit of a pain to do. but once done, always done...

I suppose DSDT is the way to go for all hardware. So far I have injected Graphics and sound into DSDT. Now I don't need to install any kexts for sound and graphics. Seems the OSX86 scene is becoming easier and more compatible than ever.

No the easiest way to get nVidia graphics is install a modern Chameleon or PC-EFI by Netkas, and put Graphicsenabler=Yes in com.apple.Boot.plist. The easiest way to do that is to install the latest MyHack installer (1.1), it's really excellent. (just choose customize for all the options)

If you are getting a blue screen try the other DVI (or VGA) port. Also try using a DVI-VGA adaptor.

Have you tried Multibeast yet? One click of the mouse for graphicsenabler.
 
there's some great info on tony's blog/forum yeah, I found the info needed to do a successful recompile of the dsdt file for my other box, the iboot+multibeast method, as far as I have skimmed over, seems to focus more on i5 and i7 builds though...
